Is it immoral to push your beliefs on others?

Is it moral to meddle in the affairs of other peoples and cultures, or to tell people how to live? If "God" gives you your freedoms as many Americans tell us, then is taking away freedom of action, imposing upon free will, and free expression immoral?

As a logical extension, we might ask, "Is it moral to denigrate others because you think your way of life is superior?"

If not, then would proselytizing religions like Christianity (or Islam) be considered immoral?

I don't think it's a matter of morals as much as it is stupidity. Meddling by its mere definition---unwanted intrusion---is simply a stupid thing to do. As for telling people how to live, this is done every day by the religious, and while most likely unwelcome, people who do it have the right to free expression. So I don't see it as immoral but more of an annoyance..

If you take committing a wrong as being immoral, then yes.

As a logical extension, we might ask, "Is it moral to denigrate others because you think your way of life is superior?"
Unlike most people, I take the "Sticks and Stones" approach. Denigration, just like any other insult, only has the power the "victim" gives it.

If not, then would proselytizing religions like Christianity (or Islam) be considered immoral?
It would not. I suspect that at most it would be highly annoying.

That is a really good question. And I could support a yes and a no. A yes because depending on how susceptible a person is to what is being taught to them they may really take it to heart and end up depressed and feeling scared and hopeless when exposed to certain religions. No because some people thrive on faith a do much better with it. I think the intention of the one delivering the message as well as their ability to understand people have the right o their own opinion is key.

Well, I think you can tell them about what you think on it, but just not force them to do it.

Proselytizers usually believe in freewill but also believe that you can go to hell using your will wrongly, so they try to 'save you'. It's not their fault, they were just told that's what happens.

As a logical extension, we might ask, "Is it moral to denigrate others because you think your way of life is superior?"

Nope, not moral at all.

If not, then would proselytizing religions like Christianity (or Islam) be considered immoral?

Immoral is subjective.

But in my book, they have crossed the limit many times, just simply as not paying taxes but we pay taxes for their Churches and Mosques is what makes me mad. I really think we should force tax on them, or at least make it illegal to pay them for religious services.

Forcing people to conform to your beliefs is wrong. But I really don't see what's innately immoral about telling someone your beliefs and encouraging them to accept them. After all, if you believed you had the truth, wouldn't you have the desire (and perhaps moral imperative) to share it with others?
