How come most religious people seem to have a issue about Rock/metal?

A lot of NuMetal acts are absolute crap for reasons beyond the whole superficial "it's not metal to like corporate crap" line. Slipknot is one of them, though they at least try to move further away from NuMetal on the spectrum, they fail.

Then again, a lot of people put The Deftones in the NuMetal category, and I think The Deftones are still utterly awesome. C'est la vie.

yeah,that's what i meant.

Of course when i was younger metal/rock,referred to stuff like Ozzy Osbourne,Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Megadeth,Metallica,Def Leppard,Bon Jovi,Manowar,Saxon. Not the screamo,death metal,or nu-metal stuff that is now called metal. which brings to mind. Get off my lawn you kids.

This OP reminds me of a story (this is a true story): My sister decided that it would be OK to send her 2 daughters to Sunday School. My sister isn't particularly religious. Her daughters came home in tears because they were told that people who listen to Rock music were going to hell, and my sister and her ex-husband love groups like Led Zepplin and similar. My sister decided not to send them to that Church anymore.

I think lyrics are much more important than the beat or style of the music... music is pretty powerful to influence how we think/feel, so it is important to choose music which uplifts and inspires, rather than music which brings you down... just my 0.02... I think God likes music which uplifts people, rather than tears people down...

Believe it or not I'm very spiritual but my favorite genre is Metal. All kinds. Speed metal, Thrash metal, Power Metal, Classic Metal. I don't like dark or satanic stuff though.

The big thing about music to me is that everything has a energy or vibration. It can either lift you up, make you irritated, or angry or depressed. If you allow the music to bring you down then God cares, because I believe God cares mainly about your spiritual growth and overall happiness more than anything.

i don't think music is that powerful to influence anything...
if one likes a certain artist usually they know what the artist thing is...
if someone is already thinking of stuff and the song happens to be about that particular subject...it's not influencing them it's conversing with them, so to speak...it's free speech and freedom of expression...if we do not advocate for these things we advocate censorship...we would then feed into a big brother system were no one can say anything...much less sing about it...
i also think the stye of music has to do with taste....

I think God likes music which uplifts people, rather than tears people down...

what about being honest with how one feels about something?
does god frown upon that?
sometimes we don't feel good...and when we don't it's good to not feel so
isolated and know other people feel or think the same things.

I think it's stupid to judge genres or musicians by the stupid subcultures that people attach to them. The sole determining factor should be whether or not it's pleasing to the ears.

I almost hate to bring this up, but originally, back in the fifties, according to my mom who grew up during that time and was a teen in the 50s, people didn't like rock and roll back then because of racism. I don't think race has anything to do with it anymore, as people pass down that hatred of the music without passing down the racism connected to it . So they hate rock, but they don't know why.
I am not saying this is the only reason people hate rock, but it may be one reason. And I could be totally off the mark.

I have listened to the lyrics of Ozzy Osbourne. He writes songs about hell, the devil, etc in almost a biblical sense. They are mostly harmless. He comes across as a gimmick. My son loves him and Zakk Wilde as well. I have learned to tolerate it but I won't let my son play the song "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath in my presence, as it kind of scares me (a guy pleading to God to help him is kind of scary, although I can't really say why, and my son and husband laugh at me and I certainly can't blame them- it's kind of stupid of me).

But I prefer the softer sounds of The Beatles, America, George Harrison, Stevie Wonder, The Eagles etc. I love Soul Music of the 70s.

I find nothing wrong with listening to Metal and being religious... I feel it's all about common misconception that ignorance seems to disallow the understanding of... Lyrical content doesn't always define genre...

Me personally I like to listen to Metal that don't have lyrics at all... Bands like Animals as Leaders, RXYZYXR, Friend For A Foe (prior to vocalist, which even with, they have no religious content in their music), A-Sync, Vildhjarta (similar vocalist situation as Friend for a Foe) all are metal, but have no vocal content which allow the interpretation of the song to be left up to the listener...
