Treasure in Heaven

Treasure- Strongs#2344 deposit i.e. wealth: treasure (Greek)
Treasure- Strongs # 214 a depository armory, cellar,garner, store(house); treasure(house) (Hebrew)

Yeshua/Jesus was using Rabbinic rhetoric here, so maybe the Rabbi's could help you out a bit.

By the way Good eye and evil eye are Hebrew idioms for a Generous person/Good Eye and a tightwad/Evil Eye.

A clue to the Treasure question.

I like what I came up with better. Btw, usually when the Bible speaks of wealth its more of what's in the heart of a person not one's purse. And "eye" reflects one's discernment or understanding. Ever heard of the "third" eye? You see the Bible is an Eastern book so you need to use an eastern perspective when reading it. One cannot literally lay up treasure in heaven so it's probably a metaphor or some other type of figure of speech. The greek word is qhsaurivzw and its transliteration is thesaurizo. Besides, you can't take a verse out of its context, if you continue reading the chapter Jesus is teaching his followers how to not think about earthly things but rather spiritual things and trusting God. The line "For where you treasure is, there will your heart be also" is like saying "for where your mind is, there will your heart be also." Hope this helps.

You have given a perfect demonstration of why there is 2500+ denominations, everyone wants to be God. "I like what I came up with better." No matter what the Bible says and the Bible dictionaries say!

Don't play word games. If you know what it means then say it. Stop beating around the bush with your "clues". Are you suggesting we load up a rocket with precious metals and launch them into space?

Matthew 6:19-22: Lay not up for yourselves treasures[thoughts] upon earth[realm of matter] where moth[fear] and rust[worry] doth corrupt[breed defeat and frustration] and where thieves[doubts] break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasure[thoughts] in heaven[realm of spirit] where neither moth[fear] nor rust[worry] doth corrupt[breed defeat and frustration] and where thieves[doubts] do not break through nor steal: For where you treasure[mind] is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body[life] is the eye[spiritual understanding]: if therefore thine eye[spiritual understanding] be single[perfect, straight], thy whole body[life] shall be full of light. But if thine eye[spiritual understanding] be evil[eronious] thy whole body[life] shall be full of darkness.

This is what it means. Period. Be my guest and put into [...] what you think it means.

I know what the Bible says, it says "study to show thyself an approved workmen before God, rightly dividing the word of truth". That doesn't mean looking it up in a "bible dictionary". That isn't "study". If I'm wrong then I'll stand in front of God on my own.

Here is what his Hebrew audience understood,
#1. To give honor to parents. (first commandment w/promise)
2. Acts of loving kindness. (gimmelus chessed)
3. Early attendance at the house of study. (Beit ha Mikdash)
4. Prompt attention to Hospitality. (like Abraham and God)
5. Visit the sick.
6. Provide for a bride.
7. Escort the dead. (Dead cannot repay)
8. Absorbtion in prayer.
9. Making peace. (Justice)
10 Study of the Torah. (Equal to them all)
This was taught in the Beit ha Mikdash, The Rabbi's that Yeshua was with (Luke 2:46-52) may well have spoke this to Yeshua at this time. These are the commandments of Treasue in Heaven. A possible question Yeshua asked them is, "How often should one do thes things?" The Rabbi's would say, "There is no perscribed measure, you may do them as often as you wish. The fruit of them is to be enjoyed in this world, but the principle is stored up in heaven to be enjoyed in the olam ha bah/world to come."

I really didn't want to say this, but when two of you say the same thing, it leaves me little choice. By what stretch of the imagination, do you save souls?

I am not really certain Ronald but I assume it would be conbverting un-believers to christianity.

I was watching Benni Hinn a few weeks back and he used that Matthew 6:19-22 verse to let his audience know that the way to save up treasure in heaven is to send him money..lots of money.

No sh*t thats what he said.

I believe that the "treasures" that you store up in heaven are those who you have lead to Jesus Christ. Isn't that the greatest treasure? Knowing that you were able to make an influence upon a person's eternal soul? The Bible also speaks of some experiencing loss at the great Judgement- a possibility of this may be the knowledge and sight of all of the people one had an opportunity to witness to and ignored it- and seeing them go to hell because they did not accept Jesus as their savior.

Eternal Soul? If Eternal, How "The soul that sins, it shall die."
I am sure God is so crass he will humilliate you by parading the souls (you allowed to go unsaved)past you into an everburning hell!
Sorry, I'm not buying that! God is Love.
The ten commandments of Treasure in Heaven are listed in an earlier post.
Yeshua/Jesus makes mention of many of them in his teachings, i. e. "Cup of cold water." "When did we see you sick, hungry and naked?"(Paraphrased)

I think true blood hit the nail on the head. Think about it. Almost anything can be considered a treasure--various things are 'treasures' to various people. It's whatever we think about most, love the most, desire the most. What is a treasure to me is not necessarily going to be a treasure to you. As the saying goes I think, 'One man's trash is another man's treasure.' Jesus was using an analogy to help us understand a spiritual concept. If our 'treasure', for instance, is making as much money as we can, then that is a treasure that has no eternal value. When we die, our wealth will not follow us into eternity. To store up treasure in heaven simply means loving and desiring most those things which do have eternal value--and I believe this can include, but does not exclusively include, investing our time in trying to save souls. Whatever our treasure may be, it is something that we put priority on and invest time in. So to say the treasure is silver, gold, etc., is thinking purely on a physical level. We need to think beyond that. If we think that our treasure in heaven will merely be gems and mansions and so forth, then we are missing Jesus' whole point.

I am so pleased the the Word of the Lord will not return to him void, it seems I have labored in vain.
Nowhere in the ten Commandments of Treasure in Heaven were there mention of Gold, Silver or diamonds, merely serving HaShem and our fellow man. Good Works.
