Path of the Righteous Gentile

"For my house shall become a house of prayer for all nations." Isaiah 56:7

Preserved among Orthodox Jewish tradition is the Oral Torah, which are detailed instructions revealed at Mt. Sinai for understanding the written Torah. Both were given to Moses and the Israelites at Mt. Sinai and is under the protection of Jewish Religion. The oral teachings are now no longer oral due to the threat of it going into extinction during the Babylonian captivity, so the Jews were forced to write the oral teachings down in various writings we call the Mishnah, Talmud, and other writings. In this Talmud is also preserved the teachings not only for the Jews but also for Gentiles, the peoples of all the nations. Every nation rejected G-d except for the Jews, who alone became faithful and that is why they have such a unique covenant with G-d. G-d knew it was going to come down to the Israelites and He chose them for His continued spiritual teachings here on earth. They will forever remain a "light unto the nations." People will come from all over to learn about G-d and the teaching He layed out for mankind.

However, there was always a small remnant at least, among the various nations of the world who did preserve the teachings of the Righteous Gentile, to which we call the Noahide Covenant. The title "Noahide" refers to our distant ancestor Noah who's descendants preserved the covenant G-d granted after the Flood so that mankind would continue to live holy lives and have a fresh start. This covenant was again revealed at Mt. Sinai within the oral law to Moses, and was to be preserved for Gentiles who wished to follow their Creator. It was not revealed to the Gentiles of the nations at the time of Mt. Sinai because they rejected the Lord their G-d and followed after other gods and practiced sorcery and divination.

Basically the Noahide Laws are simple and easy to devote to. They represent universal spirituality for the whole world, to unite in harmony with both Israel and G-d their Creator. It is a guideline, a guidebook from G-d to man to show how we can live an exalted, spiritual lifestyle. We must remember that G-d is impartial to Jew or Gentile, we are ALL equal in His sight. The Noahide laws are just as valid and perfect as the Torah laws. In fact, they only compliment each other:

7 laws of The Noahide Covenant are:

#1 is Do not practice Idolatry - the belief in and worship of other gods, angels, demons, holy men, sorcerors, diviners, psychics, or kings. Know that there is only one G-d and that He loves you. He wishes for you to know and desire Him over man's religion. This is not meant as a punishment to man or to say someone is evil for not believing in the One God, but He desires this belief among us so that we know He exists and is One.

#2 is do not Curse G-d - even when things get tough in our lives, we should not doubt the Will of G-d and blame the Creator for everything bad in our lives; instead we should seek His comfort through good faith and prayers, and know that He always cares for us. We should continue to do what is right and good in His sight and blessings will come our way. We should Sanctify our beloved Creator, because He is our sole Sustainance and Savior from the afflictions of the world.

#3 is do not Murder - It is an old saying that G-d loves those who love their neighbor, but hates those who wrongfully harm one another. We should have respect for all humanity, even if we do not always get along with each other because of religion, race, or culture. Do not wrongfully kill or harm, for this will do more harm to our souls than good. It is said that when committing such wretched acts of violence, we actually are murdering our own heart and soul, and worst of all, we lose our closeness with G-d.

#4 is do not practice Immoral Sexuality - Similar to #3 in that we harm each other for our own sensual pleasures and gratification. Once this happens our souls become damaged and it is very difficult to repair a damaged soul. Our closeness with the Lord is then gone and we lose all spiritual knowledge and care for the Creator or humanity. Love is a very beautiful thing between two partners, and once we destroy that hope of beauty, we are destroying the way of Love itself in the world. So guard yourselves and seek the ways of love. Honor your wife and your husband so that you will live happily and equally.

#5 is Respect Animal life and do not eat raw flesh - Animals and even Plants too are part of life, the children of G-d who share our world. We should have equal respect for them as we do for ourselves.

#6 is Respect Property and Possessions - It is wrong and deceitful to take away or damage what is another person's possessions, whether it be money or something else valueable, it belongs to them and we should have the decency to not get jealous of others.

#7 is to establish Courts of Justice - This is meant for nations on a grand scale. To establish a system of holy laws to enforce the other Six in society. This is meant for the greater good and to show honor for G-d. Criminals who commit acts such as murder, rape, and robbery should be rightfully punished depending on the severity of the crime.

In Jewish tradition we have the concept of a Messiah, a great king like David who G-d will raise up to lead all the righteous of the Lord, be they Jew or Gentile; the Righteous of all the nations will have a share in this world to come, which will last forever. No more will there be evil and deceit in the world, for the presence of the Creator will pervade the entire creation, so that heaven and earth are joined together in eternity. By fullfilling the 7 laws of Noah, Gentiles too will have their share in the new world to come.

This is what we as Noahides believe, and this is our spiritual tradition we share. Anyone feel free to ask questions and anyone interested I can post some good links to more Noahide sites and chat forums to meet others like myself.

Peace ;)

That is. as you yourself say, a pretty straightforward 'set of rules'. The only one that surprised me was:-

In that I find it hard to understand the difference in Raw or cooked flesh, in the matter of respect for animals. As for Plants, I do hold them in great respect, as I do their unwitting sacrifice as food for me.:162:

Please could you explain the reasoning behind the raw/cooked meat thinking ?

that didn't sound like a very happy reply binyamin? lol
is there something you wanted to add or say?

anyways, Michel, in the Bible/Tanakh G-d saves Noah from the Flood and afterwords gives him an additional commandment not to eat the raw flesh of animals, (G-d also mentions the commandment of not to murder too, the rest are preserved in the Talmud). Just look it up in your old testament or whatever you use as a Bible it'll be there where G-d is giving the New Covenant to Noah :)

the meaning behind it is when you must kill an animal it must be done quickly with as minimal pain as possible for the animal. You can't just eat the flesh of raw animal as it might still be alive, and we are to fully cook our meat, without any blood remaining, it must be a sign of our respect for G-d's creatures plus it's also more healthy.

Well, with the meat thing, it's important for a righteous gentile to eat KOSHER meat. I was just acknowledging the reply, I was actually going to make that post this week as we went over the Parsha.
