Luke-warm Christian?

fromthe heart

Well-Known Member
I've noticed some big changes in attitude these days and that some Christians are becoming luke-warm. Changes in Bible texts to make text easier to read is in MPO a wrong in what we as Christians should do. Eventually the text will become so unlike scripture to 'suit' the readers request. Plus having the different services some churches have such as one of my family members attend. They have an old time Bible preaching service then they have the more contemporary service with the up beat music. then they have the one that has the teen style beat. So therefore just what do you see is a luke-warm Christian?

Personally I don't feel a true Christian would chose to have the scriptures changed...or that they would allow for some of what is accepted in some of todays churches given how scriptures says a Christian is to be...I would like some in-put from you all on this since I personally have a luke-warm Christian in my family and the differences are very apparent. Church going on Sunday unless the Steelers are playing a home game then it's off to Pittsburgh to the game...shouldn't we bide by the real facts of the Bible and ACT more like Christians should than having so many differences?

I don't say all this to get those of you who don't use KJV angry...it's more to get you to take a look at what you really see as a strong Christian...I personally don't care what version of the Bible you read but have noticed many ministers are making it quite an issue around here.

Thank you in advance.:)

Good point Fromthe heart - but I would still advocate that a luke warm Christian is better than no Christian at all.

I agree with some of what you say; somehow chrome and aluminium have no place in Churches, and I am even slightly put off by the Microphone on the lectern.......:D

Traditions are the essence of Religion - I agree; to dilute then and miss a Sunday doesn't say much for the regard for God; although I have missed Sundays before now (for some reason or other -not one of pleasure). If I do, I devote another day to God......;)

Hi From the heart, our church did a sermon on something simular to your question, it was basically " are you a Sunday Christian " then live your life the way one wants the rest of the week..Has one got to the stage were doing other things start to seem more attractive than going to church. I think we all got to be careful and not become too lazy..Have we lost our zeal for God. Thankyou for the food for thought.. :)

Oh yes, Jackie, the 'Sunday Christian'; what a good description.

More often than not, I have this image of a wonderfully pious Lady (and that isn't sexism) and her friend, going into Church. On the way out, she is heard talking to her friend about the way 'so and so' dresses, ooooh, and you'll never guess what mrs smith hung on her washing line the other day........................... I get this wonderful image of les Dawson (I am sorry, you Americans), playing the part so well.;)

I'm not sure the Lord would fully agree with you ---

Revelation 3:14-16 14"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Defenders notes re Revelation 3:14-16 "Note that Christ would prefer not only a hot church like Philadelphia but also a cold church like Sardis to a lukewarm, neutral, accommodationist, comfortable church like Laodicea. At least Sardis was not harming anyone because it was not influencing anyone."
I think God would still prefer someone to be half good than all bad; don't you ?;)

I would agree with you on the individual level. I just thought I'd throw it out there for discussion.

I do have to say, however, that I believe that a large part of Christianity is change. Changing your behavior to be more in line with the will of God. Therefore, any organization that panders to the lifestyle that a person currently has, and doesn't inspire/expect a change from its members isn't doing anybody much good in the end.

My post is gone! Anyway, I agreed with the original poster. The Bible has definitely been changed enough. We shouldn't change it any more. I saw a Bible that was taking out any gender pronouns when in reference to God to appease the feminists. Rediculous! And then I said that SoyLeche made a frubal-worthy post when he talked about how religion should change you, and it does no good if you're not changed.

So to clarify.... are you saying that Christians who worship God every day but don't adhere to the traditions of religiosity (like church on Sundays) are disregarding God? Wow :(

I don't agree that missing church is wrong because it's WHERE your heart is at on the day that counts ...some aren't sure about their churchs teachings and still love the Lord and want to serve Him but have just not been led in the correct direction yet....above all we are to keep Holy what matters...but to always attend church and then to run off to a football game says to me you aren't putting God first. We all have the things we enjoy but Satan does throw stumbling blocks in our way by tempting us with schedualling our things for the day we are to respect as God's day. I'm not infering that I'm not guilty of the same thing but not in the respects of what some do...Christians are not to judge but is it possible that some just don't get it that on GODS day it's for HIM and not for our own use??? We are in all respects to live FOR the Lord in all things and to remember to keep one day out of our busy lives as HIS Holy day.
Wouldn't that be like the jewish folks breaking Yom Kippur for selfish needs??? Christians need to get in deeper touch with God and less on self...the statement someone brought to light in the phrase' What Would Jesus Do' should be something we DO question in our behaivor on a daily basis as Christians. We also should not take a luke-warm approach in the ways of the world either. Either you are for God or you are against God...there is no inbetween...when God says in His word that something is wrong and we don't stand by His word and tollerate and participate in worldly ways what does that say about who we are...life here for the Christian is NOT for our own self...it IS for God and God alone that we still have this life we live. I just think some of us should stop teetering on the line of social tollerance and stick to our beliefs and abide in them in the manner we were instructed to do so. Love thy Neighbor and above all Love the one true God that put us here for His purpose and not for our own ways.

Sorry...sort of turned that into a sermon of sorts and I don't wish to do that...but I've just become enlightened about the Christians walk here and there's a lot of us who just don't get it.:)

Well, I am staggered, 'religiosity' is a noun, and is in the Dictionary; had I been a gambling man, I would have lost on that.:D

No, I am not saying that at all; I am saying that traditions are part of the make-up of a Religion; here in England, the way the Church looks, the pews, the organ - the vestments. Sure Religion need a traditional 'look' to show its distinction from other ways of life.

I even qualified the statement about needing to rest on the seventh day; If that is going to inconvenience anyone, I am quite happy tomiss out, or replace the Sunday with another day.......besides, God is in my mind and in my heart most of my waking hours anyway..

I understand you say we can just make sure we at least pick a day to have for the Lord but that's not how it says we are to do in scriptures. It plainly says to remember the Sabbath to keep it Holy...it doesn't say pick a day to keep holy it says the sabbath....BUT also what is the sabbath for one isn't for other's...perhaps that is what you meant? In many of the things Jesus said He also said things such as He that hath an ear let him hear....do you suppose some of us just don't have that ear to relate to the scriptures in the sense that we just aren't hearing what God has intended for us to do?? Or perhaps it just makes us luke-warm to God and what He wants???

I'm sorry Mich my dear friend...do you suppose God FEELS He really is when you don't do as He says distinctly or do you view that in a different perspective than what I'm hearing? I know you are a soldier for God but as with any of us do you do WHAT exactly the Lord says or do you perhaps sometimes just wing it as we I'm sure are all guilty of at times??? I just think I have my self gave God a back seat at times and it's just wrong to do other than what God has speciffically said we are to do...Am I right or wrong??

This is exactly why I'm your 'luke warm Christian' So called Christians with their mightier then thou attitude. Preaching that their way is the only way. If you don't heed to their way of thinking, your going to hell. Condemning gays. Condemning any way of life that differs from theirs. What Jesus teach? Humility. Love EVERYONE! JUDGE NOT! If judging people, deciding for yourself who goes to heaven and who doesn't makes you a Christian, count me out. I'd rather find God on my own then be a part of that.

whats important is weather the teaching are inline with the bible did not Jesus call the religious leaders of his day (serpents of vipers ) and hypocrits make no mistake about it to be a follower of jesus is to follow his example and that would include making known falsehood especially to religious leaders claiming to represent God . Jesus was humble and showed humility but he was also concerned with truth ,and he did not hold back from making known the truth, even if it put the backs up of so called religious leaders who made their own rules up

Jesus was also perfect. Did he not also say "He who is without sin be the 1st to cast a stone?" He is the only one that can judge. Seems a whole lot of Christians cast many a stone. It's cool to have your beliefs. I have mine. I believe Mine are correct.... for me. I try not to tell others how to live their lives. But others try to tell me how to live mine, according to their faith.
