What evidence for God

St Giordano Bruno

Well-Known Member
My last glimmer of credibility concerning an existence of a universal intelligent force AKA God that sat fine by me was the teleological argument, which is interpreting the very existence of order and complexity as some evidence of the existence of a God of some sought. But then came along versions of the anthropic principle; in particular the weak anthropic principle which implies the existence of a multiverse. This gives me a more satisfactory explanation for the order and complexity we observe than some intelligent supreme being which in turn would need to be another complex entity in itself which begs the question, where did that complexity come from I wonder? The multiverse, unlike the observable universe need not be constrained by the existence of living things within it. Instead there would be every possible physical combination of every possible physical universe. Most of them would be quite dead with no living things to observe them and explain their own existence but some give rise to some rare universes with such rare characteristics to permit the existence of intelligent observers within it.

The created human can comprehend the creator but the painted cannot comprehend the painter unless the painted is a human being with a conscious mind.

I think people belive in God because they were brought up that way, I think the dwindling crowds in the church is a factor in people understanding the proof of science rather than a tall tale of the bible. There are so many religions, they cant all be true, people are scared of dying is another reason for belief in god. Just get on with it, death will happen, that has been proven. what happens when you do die is another is someething we will all find out in due course just get on with being alive:)

im chalking this up to a serious lack of education combined with imagination.

waist of time really, there is no proof what so ever of a god type figure

I wouldn't necessarily say its a lack of education, moreso a lack of understanding the education.

Imagination is most definitely involved.

Oh yea, I couldn't help but notice the yamaca the man was wearing.

Providing scientific evidence for "God" while wearing a yamaca isn't a very swaying, since the Abrahamic faiths have always been ones to bash education, let alone science.

If the man was a pantheist, or a panentheist his explination would of been way more clear, but unfortunately his bias was showing.

So...we done?

you know I think they were done before this thread started

the majority of what one believes, the majority of the time, is simply tied to geographic location only :run:

the fact the same god is not evenly distributed globally,,, you would think it would be solid proof there is NO god :bath:

And if it should come to pass/evolve that "the same god is evenly distributed globally" and the major living religious traditions recognised that the god worshiped is 'one God'......would think it would be solid proof there IS god?

I wouldn't......but surely you hold the inverse of your proposition to be true....?

Are you asking if universal belief is proof?

from what i gather some believe god didn't create hell...some believe jesus is the way, some believe mohammed is...some don't even acknowledge jesus or mohammed as anything other than wise men...
how can you reconcile that as worshipping the same god?
some think god is found in nature
some think god is found in the kindness of strangers
some think god is an indifferent first cause

god is understood subjectively...that is the point
the inverse of that is understanding god empirically...
sort of like, we all know we get wet when jumping into the ocean...
or that we empirically understand gravity... or that it is best to stay away from tornadoes if you want to survive...
god is not understood in the same way. period. that is fact. that is the way it is.

My left pinkie toe is proof of God.

If any atheist were to look at it, they would instantly become a theist of the highest order.
