Which Tribulation?
Deuteronomy 4:30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, [even] in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;
Matthew 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
It has become evident that many believers are unaware that the Bible does not always make a clear distinction between the tribulation period of the saints and the tribulation or tribulations of the saint. Sometimes the scriptures will speak of one and other times it can speak of both concurrently. The inability of individuals to recognize and divide the two has helped pave the way for many false doctrines and theories regarding the location of believers during the second coming of Messias.
We must first understand that there are two types of tribulation which the Bible speaks of. The first tribulation is the period which is brought upon the saints and the world as a means of judgement. Contrary to some of your popular doctrines all believers will be present for this time. For believers this period is used for judgement and refinement. For non- believers this period is a time of retribution. We can also say that this period of time is used to separate the wheat from the tares. Those believers who are rooted and grounded in good soil will survive, and those who are weak in root and soil will be uprooted and destroyed alongside the tares. This tribulation is also known by other monikers such as the Time of Trouble, the Day of Trouble, the Day of Visitation, the Day of the Lord, and the Day of Wrath.
The second tribulation is the tribulation or tribulations which every individual will face during their lifetime. These tribulations are part of life and they may vary from person to person. Anything that may cause a period of mental, physical, or spiritual distress and or suffering can be classified as your tribulation or tribulations. Some examples of things which may cause this type of tribulation can vary from racism, poverty, the death of a loved one, and or the trials of medical school.
Secondly we must also understand that the Holy Bible is truly a supernatural book. Much of the Bible is written in such a way that many of the verses and words have the ability to convey more than one meaning. These verse may appear to allude to one thing but in actuality they may be referring to something totally different. This is done purposefully. This is also why any individual can take almost any verse in the Bible and with no labor at all extract any number of meanings from it. And this is also the reason why there are so many different biblical doctrines and theories floating around. In order to receive the Bibles true message, one must read and study while in the true spirit of God. We also must understand that many verses have a dual nature. These verses may speak about two different events or speak across time to two different generations of people concurrently. For example if you study (Luke 17:22-23) you will see that Messias is not only talking to those disciples who are there present with him. He is also talking across time to those disciples who are present during the end. These two causes which I have just given are the reasons why we are instructed by the word of God to study so that we rightly divide the word of truth (2Tim 2:15)*
So now with these two pieces of information in hand let us see some examples of verses which speak solely about the tribulation period of the end, and other verses which are dualistic in their conveyance.
1.These verses are examples of verses which speak solely to the tribulation period of the end. (Matt. 24:21 and 29, Mark 13:24, Rev. 2:9, 2:10, and 2:22)
2. This verse is an examples of a verse which speaks to Israels tribulation periods of old and at the same time speaks to the saints tribulation period of the end. (Deut 4:30,)
3.This verse is an example of a verse which speaks to King David s then present tribulation period and at the same time addresses his future tribulation period (1Sam 26:24).
4.These verses are examples of verses which speak to the tribulation period of the saints and at the same time speaks to their individual tribulation or tribulations. (Matt 13:21, John 16:33, Acts 14:22. Rom. 2:9, Rom 5:3, Rom. 8: 35, Rom. 12:12, 2Cor. 1:4, 2Cor. 7:4, 1Thess. 3:4, 2Thess 1:6, 2Thess 1:4)
5. This verse is an example of a verse which speaks to both Israels tribulation periods and their tribulations. (1Sam 10:19)
Now with these few examples and with the aid of the Spirit of God you should be able to distinguish between verses which are dualistic in nature and verses which have multiple meanings. These verses which have multiple meanings must be rightly divided by the spirit of the believer in order to arrive at the correct concluding.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
