Treasure in Heaven

The Messiah Yeshua/Jesus mentions "Treasure in Heaven" on several occasions. Since we will walk on streets paved with gold, eat from the tree of life and live in a mansion. Why will we have need of treasure? What will be treasure in heaven? How can we store up treasure in heaven?
Did his audience know what he spoke of? Do the Children of Israel or Rabbi's have a treasure concept? Are you storing up treasure in heaven? If so , How?

What is the definition of treasure in this thread? I believe Heaven is within us. On that basis treasure could be defined as the eternal and unconditional love. Not making your focus in the love of gold, you would find instead unconditional love and the eternal within you.

I believe the streets paved in gold image is a metaphor.

Mt. 6:20, Mt.19:21, Mr.10:21, and Lu.18:22. Thses are to verses where Treasure is mentioned. There are no explaination of what it is nor how to earn Treasure in Heaven.
Therefore the questions? I don't think the precious metals and jewels in the Holy City are Metaphoric?

why would you need physical treasure in heaven?

I agree that this is a metaphor. A freedom from want and need.

is there anything you would like more than gold streets and a gorgeous mansion?

Could the Treasure in Heaven, be that of which the New Jerusalem is built of?
1 Cor.3:10-15 Paul talks of precious metals and stones building foundations!
Paul is talking of Works here!?

actually I don't want either.... I'd like a nice yurt in out in the woods and rather than a road I'd like a nice path through those woods.

I have no want for treasure.

Considering that the "treasure in heaven" Jesus spoke of was in the Gospels and not the epistles(not 100% sure) and Jesus was trying to prepare his appointed diciples to go "reap the harvest" I will take a guess that the treasures in heaven would be the saved souls they were to gather. For example if you go preach the truth and "save" a person resulting that they receive the spirit of God; this to me is laying up "treasure in heaven". Not sure though but I'll give it some more thought. Can always ask God about it, no?

Yeshua/Jesus made it sound as if it is important to have treasure in heaven.
Where your treasure is, your heart is also.
I wonder why preachers only mention it and not give details on how to have "Treasure in Heaven"?

Sorry, but this is by far and away one of the silliest statements I've read here so far.

You make it sound as though your "in it" for the money.

Eye of the Beholder!
When your savior tells you do to something, is it silly?
He made it sound like it was important for to do, so I want to know just how I'm to go about it. Foolisness of God------(and it goes on)

I agree with True Blood.
I`ve always understood it as being saved souls.

I really didn't want to say this, but when two of you say the same thing, it leaves me little choice. By what stretch of the imagination, do you save souls?

Treasures=thoughts. That is the usage of the Greek word used in the scripture, so I was wrong at first.

Matthew 6:19-22: Lay not up for yourselves treasures[thoughts] upon earth[realm of matter] where moth[fear] and rust[worry] doth corrupt[breed defeat and frustration] and where thieves[doubts] break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasure[thoughts] in heaven[realm of spirit] where neither moth[fear] nor rust[worry] doth corrupt[breed defeat and frustration] and where thieves[doubts] do not break through nor steal: For where you treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body[life] is the eye[spiritual understanding]: if therefore thine eye be single[perfect, straight], thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil[eronious] they whole body shall be full of darkness.

This is the joy of studying the Scriptures with prayer; to come to a full understanding of their meanings. He who is in you is greater then he who is in the world. God in Christ in me, the hope of glory, amen.
