that's exactly what i've been thinking and reason why i haven't watched it. so .. would you advice me to watch it, sir?

.

Absolutely. Each of the 5 days that he's trapped down there is it's own story, in a way. The realizations that he makes (mostly about himself) and the different stages and phases he goes through keep the whole thing moving right along.

What sort of movies do you like, Penumbra? I am a pretty big fan of independent films, black comedy, intense emotional dramas, and award winning foreign films. Not so much into science fiction or action movies, unless they have a lot of substance to them. I also don't care much for happy happy joy joy movies that are fluffy and predictable. I'm very picky about the script - VERY picky. The fastest way for me to lose interest is to hear a pantywaist script. I would rather watch substandard special effects than have to suffer through a stilted script! (Though both are burdensome!)
Dramas, black comedies, a few thrillers, reasonably interesting action/adventure/scifi flicks (matrix, lotr, sunshine, dark knight), some quirky movies, a few independent and foreign films, dark films, and ones that are visually creative or stunning. There are a few romantic comedies I like, but not many.

And I still like the animated Disney movies from the 90s like Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast, as well as movies from Hayao Miyazaki. Plus I kind of have a guilty pleasure for animated super hero movies and a few animes. Part of it has to do with being familiar with the characters, and part of it has to do with the aforementioned admiration of visually stunning/creative movies, because they can show scenarios that can't really be acted out physically. I like to draw and so I like to see well-drawn animated stories.

What are some of your favorite movies?

I tried watching Inception last night, but turned it off 1/2 way through. Miserable acting, dumb story and great special effects.
This movie is almost the definition of "overreach". Sorta like Avatar. *Yawn*

Tonight watched Anthony Hopkins in The World's Fastest Indian.
Now THAT is a great movie. It is highly recommended at Chez Ymir.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Hey, cool - "The World's Fastest Indian" is in my Netflix queue. I love me some Anthony Hopkins.

Has anyone seen "The Bounty" with Anthony Hopkins as Captain Bligh and a very young Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian? Music by Vangelis - wow, talk about great acting - one of the most evocative movies I've ever seen, between the acting, the score and the photography.

Penumbra - a few of my favorites are:

Pulp Fiction
Fiddler on the Roof
Shallow Grave (the Scottish one, not the stupid American slasher movie of the same name)
The Usual Suspects
American Beauty
Fight Club
The Sound of Music
Gone With The Wind
Bella
Napoleon Dynamite
Planes Trains and Automobiles
Amelie
Juno
Henry V
Calendar Girls
How To Lose Friends and Alienate People
The Color Purple
Schindler's List
Life is Beautiful
The Eighth Day
Little Miss Sunshine
Amadeaus
A Love Song for Bobby Long

So many - I could go on and on.

STUPID MOVIE ALERT - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON "I AM LOVE."

Wow, it looks great in the preview - Milan, very rich Italian family, Tilda Swinton as the lead, fabulous photography and riveting acting - all that is accurate. But the movie is ridiculously long, tedious, and BOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG. The script is ridiculous and I absolutely hated the ending. I watched this for nearly three hours and at the end all I could think was, "Well - that was stupid."

Watched the Social Network last night. "YAWN"

Early into the movie, I started wondering why it was considered as worthy of a "Best Picture Nomination". A mildly interesting story, tolerable acting... "Zzzzzzzzzzzzz".

Overall I would rate it at about 5/10.

Wonder Woman
Let's see, most recently I've watched:

Alice in Wonderland (new one) - so good, just so very good
The Nines - absolutely excellent
The Expendables - appears a real plot was expendable as well

Watched "Tron Legacy" with a buddy of mine last Saturday. Much better than the original, I thought, with super awesome special effects, epic soundtrack by Daft Punk, and Olivia Wilde in a black, skintight suit. What more could one ask for?

I watched the Leon: Professional again. I haven't seen it in years.

It's kind of weird and doesn't make a lot of sense, but I enjoyed it.

I love that movie, closest thing to a live action "gunslinger girl".
Jean Reno is awesome.
It's also Natalie Portman's first movie.

I found the overall level of acting to be mediocre, but the three main actors to be fantastic.

Jean Reno was perfect. Natalie Portman was amazing in her role, playing very mature themes while young.

Gary Oldman, who is probably my favorite actor overall from any movie, was a bit over the top in his character but I liked it. (I just had to shut my brain off to enjoy it). I like him better in other movies but I think he was good in this one too.

I've finally watched Disney's Princess and the Frog and Enchanted...

Omgosh, those were like, super cute movies!! ^___^ I totally recommend them!

I watched Being John Malkovich.

So weird...

Yes, that was a REALLY WEIRD movie - I have watched it twice and still don't know whether I liked it or not.

We watched "The World's Fastest Indian" the other night and absolutely LOVED it. Anthony Hopkins is such a fantastic actor - and it's a true story too, and very well directed.

I thought both of those were ok movies.

I think Tangled will be better than Princess and the Frog. I would like to see that one.

I didn't really like it. I don't mind weirdness, but I didn't like any of the characters at all.

I might add World's Fastest Indian to my Netflix queue.

Not wonderful? Of all people, I'd expect you to join me in ranking it as a movie
great....maybe not The Shawshank Redemption or Aliens, but great nonetheless.

I just saw The Fighter. Pretty good, especially the comedic aspect of his mother & many
sisters in his family. Christian Bale was unexpectedly good in a role so different for him.

Well, I don't think it was terrible, but I just didn't really like it. What aspect of it do you really love?

For me, the problem is not the weirdness, but the characters.

-Cusack's character was cruel to Malkovich and his wife. He was willing to cheat on his wife for a hot co-worker, was willing to steal someone's body for his own personal use, and was willing to kidnap and keep his wife bound and gagged in a cage.

-Diaz's character wasn't as bad as her husband, but she was still willing to steal Malkovich's body for her own personal use.

-Keener's character was willing to facilitate for money the stealing of Malkovich's body, and willing to have an affair with Cusack's character.

-Malkovich wasn't evil like the others, but not particularly likable.

Basically at the very least, everyone was really selfish, and at worst, some of them were downright evil. For me to like a story, I need to like at least some of the characters, or at least find certain aspects of them likable.
