September 25, 2005, 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus said to the chief priest and the elders of the people: What do you think in this case? (Matthew 21:28)
READINGS:
l. Ez 18, 25-28
2. Phil 2, 1-11
Gospel: Mt 21, 28-32
REFLECTION: The first son in the Gospel story is a yes-man. He wants to please the father. But, by his actions, he said an emphatic no. On the other hand, the second son acted out a yes, even though be had said no to his fathers request. Seems that time to reflect allowed the same son to consider all points and to act properly. Even when we decide, we should constantly pray to ascertain that we made the right choice. There is always a chance to change, to reform, to say yes.
PRAYER: Loving Father, many times our hearts and our actions are divided. The good things we hope to do go undone. Help us to get our good intentions in line with our actions. We are weak and often fail, but your Spirit is here to strengthen us. Stay with us, Father, and show us the way. Amen

Monday:
Dorothy Day once said, I would rather judge a man by his deeds then his words, words always seem to get changed, but we see the true man when we see what he does. Think about how you would want to be judged.
Tuesday:
The Church celebrates the life and works of St. Therese of the Child Jesus. Her way of life was to always do the ordinary things, extra ordinarily well. Try to do this today.
Wednesday:
We remember the Feast of the Holy Angels. The Church teaches that angels exist, that they have a unique position in creation since they are pure spirits without bodies and made for special work - like communicating and protecting. Discuss what experience you may have had of Gods protection through angels.
Thursday:
Make a Prayer Jar. Place the names of family members in a large jar or shoe box. As friends visit, invite them to add their names to the Family Prayer Jar. At supper draw a name and remember that person in a special way in prayer during the next day. You might want to decorate the jar.
Friday:
St. Francis of Assisi taught us much about caring for animals Since he loved animals, bless your pets and the animals today. Sprinkle water on your pets and/or out the doors to all of creation and ask Gods blessings on them.
Saturday:
Read and reflect upon the scriptures for next Sunday.
PRAYER: Lord, hear the prayers of your people whom you renew with your Spirit. Made strong by the courage it gives, and under the watchful care of the angels, may we live and serve with generosity and love. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen
