Is Christianity White supremacy?

kai

Well. are the two dilemmas in conflict with each other?
There is Christian supremacy, and Islamist supremacy.
I am not sure how one contradicts the other. especially in light of the reality that both expanded civilizations have been conquering each other on our historical time line. and both of them boast of supremacy.

Hi Caladan

Do you think there is a tangible dominant Christian identity to the west now compared to earlier times.

The west is and will always remain Christian. in the eyes of Jews, and in the eyes of Muslims.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
No, Christianity is not a front for white supremacy.

The vast majority of Christians I know are not white supremacists and were actually quite the opposite (unless they were wisely hiding that belief from me). However every white supremacist or person displaying strong racist tendencies that I have met has claimed Christianity as their religion. What is commonly known as "the Bible Belt" ie very strong christian values fought slavery the hardest, to counter this some of the most vocal abolitionists were Christian. There are instances in both Testaments of the Bible that can be seen to condone slavery.

From my experience in the US I would say the initial point of "is Christianity white supremacist" false, change the two terms around and there may be some validity there.

Shalom,

The word 'Christian' conjures up images of a white person although there surely are many nonwhite Christians, just as the word 'Muslim' has become synonymous with 'brown' even if there are many white Muslims. Bottom line, has Christianity ceased to be a religion and become instead a front for white supremacy?

Please don't be offended by this. I love Christ, but the fact that this religion is inextricably linked to racism cannot be denied. The US president Obama (I mean the abuse he faced from his opponents) is a good example here.

There is a large movement of white supremacists out there that center their religio-political belief system around a very racist version of Christianity. I personally find this very silly, as The Jesus character is Jewish, and more than likely a brown person! These people are waiting for the start of REHOWA, or some weird racist version of Ragnarok where the white folks presumably prevail. I consider the whole Nazi thing as something that attracts failed men, and small-minded women primarily. I have seen way too much of this type of thing. I worked with Anti-Racist Action in the 1980s and 1990s, and had confrontations with Nazi and white-power skinheads repeatedly.

Well, considering that there are many other ethnicities that practice Christianity, I wouldn't say that it's a "front for white supremacy". Many latin people, black people, Asians, as well as white people all are Christians.

However, religion has been used by many evil people in the past. I would agree with the sentiment that racists often try to use scriptural/ religious arguments (incorrectly and out of context) to bolster their cause. However, Christianity itself isn't a racist front. You could say that it's a homophobic institution, though. Nothing I can think of generates more undeserved hatred for gay people (in the US, at least) than Abrahamic religions.

Thanks for specifying white power skinheads, It is largely unknown that the skinhead movement started as a working class movement involving black, every skinhead I know is extremely anti-racist, just wish they were not always looking for fights in their youth.

The talk shows in the 1980s and 1990s only showed the public the skinheads that were racist, and influenced by the KKK, and the National Front, therefore, at least in the US, skinhead is associated with racist. I make it a point to clarify the distinction whenever I get the chance.

Much of South America, Africa, and certain parts of Asia are Christian. In college I learned that the whole racial dynamic of the religion is slowly shifting, as Europeans are less religious in general, and the religion is performing well in many other places. Plus I remember like a decade ago in a church I attended, an African priest visited and said that if the current trend continues, Africans are going to have to come to America more often as missionaries for the church.

It's hard to blame Christians for conjuring which happens in your mind.
The ones I know come in a bunch of different colors.

Isn't that racist to presume that we crackers oppose Obama just cuz he isn't all white?
I know a whole slew of people who voted against him for political reasons.

You missed the whole point, didn't you?

Bush family is friendly with the Saudi royal family, yet you don't see Christians wondering whether Bush is a secret Muslim, Arab, kenyan, terrorist, communist, and whatnot. His white skin protected him from all those racist slurs.

But even if Obama says a thousand times that he's a Christian, it isn't enough ... he is a Muslim, no matter how many times he denies it. Would a white Christian ever get such a lousy treatment? Would the same people expect a white Christian to prove that he really is Christian?

Gandhi,

You have not answered my question.
Why do you choose the Hebrew greeting 'Shalom' for this provocative thread?
especially in the light of the fact that you are a Hindu.

I am a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist. And when I am in a good mood, I am also agnostic.

As a child going to Sunday school back in the 60's, I remember a wonderful song.

Jesus loves the little children. All the children of the world. Red and yellow black and white, they are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.

I was never taught any racism in Christian churches.

As a young adult, I came to realise that many pictures of Jesus was not accurate.

Honestly, that never upset me. It did show me the ignorance of many however.

Is Islam a front for Brown supremacy?

Valid point. At times and in cases where the same religion is concentrated in a society you will find that it's a popular unifying springboard used as a tool to fulfill the real agenda and focus.

Racism is racism.

Supremacy ideology involving any race(s) by way of documented history has obviously marched under many banners.
