I'm speaking from my small perspective. I don't know anyone in a union, but I know a lotta
small (1-5 people) corporation owners. Plus, I know a lotta stockholders in big corporations.
My experience with auto unions was that they existed to protect overpaid lazy good-fer-nuthins.

Yeah, I know that there are many small corporations. Of course, I was talking about the big ones... and we know that these businesses don't act in the interests of the stockholders.

I agree also, and share your experience, that unions protect "protect overpaid lazy good-fer-nuthins." But I think (perhaps you would agree?) that the unions protect more hard workers than lazy bums... a big part of the reason being that they need the companies that they work for to be a success so they can make a living.

I see unions as neither good nor bad. They're just part of the mix, exercising their rights & pursuing their desires.

No one is addressing the difference between state employees and private companies.

I agree with collective bargaining for private companies.

The state is different. Politicians give sweet hearts deal to unions and then get a big contribution on their next campaign. The people lose out. State employees are not being compensated at the same rate as private employees. Their benefits are far greater than the private sector and the state is taking on too much liability.

Private people contribute to their benefit package while state employees do not.

The state is broke and will do what they can to reduce their liabilities.

We have kicked the can down the road far too long, things are going to change.

If you think about it, if states do not cut back, people will have to be laid off.

If state employees are screaming, just wait till we deal with federal employees next.

Then there is the issue of entitlements........

I'll add that unions are often touted as a check against company abuse & irresponsibility. Unions are needed to get good wages,
benefits & working conditions from them. But how does this premise apply to government? Can this employer not be trusted
to do what is right without union protection of workers? If we now accept that government cannot be trusted with its own
workers (who have more power than ordinary citizens), then what does that say about the plight of us citizens under the thumb
of police, code officials, IRS agents, welfare case workers, etc, etc? For those who trust government to run many aspects of our
lives, why not trust them to fairly treat their workers?

She kicks like a girl who can make it impossible for you to say the safe word, and well, you're powerless until she's done. And that can take a good long time.
