Is masturbation wrong?

I wouldn't think masturbation is wrong... but yet I don't exactly approve of certain lustful thinking... My thoughts on this don't really equal out do they? lol I don't know... I have mixed feelings about this... I think society has put a different image on sex and masturbation... that image is what is wrong. It's not necessarily lustfull to think about your significant other... hm... I think masturbating to like porn and stuff is what is icky... lol No offense to anyone of course! :p

Ah, but then your aegument doesn't really apply to the topic, right? Because if you did have start having sex without feeling, it wouldn't necessarily cause you more or less happiness.

Perhaps not but what the poster I responded to was insinuating is that sexual activity (of any kind outside of heterosexual marriage I assume) promotes unhappiness...which is of course absurd.

But I don't think she was. I interpreted her statement as simply refuting the idea that sex specifically leads to happiness.
Maybe I need to read it again.

You know... in my opinion... I believe you could masturbate without lustful thoughts... It's just the way society has been raised to think. I mean... you can masturbate because it feels good for you and it releases stress. You don't have to masturbate while thinking of other men or women or body parts.

But it helps...

In today's society, sure... The way that I see it though is this: what if we were raised to think differently. What if we were raised to not think of sex as that big of a deal (only done for babies for example)? Would we think differently during masturbation (if we even would at all)? It's very possible IMO. Let's just say we were raised in a nudist tribe or something... What if we were raised to be spiritual and not lustful to those of the opposite sex? I think it all depends on how you and the society was "raised".

I would love some other ideas on my thoughts though... please correct me in any way if I am wrong.

You see sexual repression is a serious problem for christianised and islamicised nations...it breeds all kinds of perversions.

Luckily I was raised not to be ashamed of my body...

I think that the spreading of the doctrine of sexual repression and personal shame that is common to christianity and islam should be outlawed...people who teach it to children to be imprisoned.

Gee, I don't know... let me consult scripture...

Would you believe, that yes, there is such a thing as a stupid question. Fear not, this ain't it. No mere answer can suffice, when the very fabric of the universe has warped to such an extent... jeez. When all else fails, try science. All you need to know, is man has evolved the small, outside package, over engineered, you might say, for production.

Thought over, ready for the experiment?

Lie back, drop your hand...

Class dismissed. Yeah, Remedial Human 101, morality, right.

I think people who advocate thought crime should be imprisoned.

I don't personally care what you think..in the slightest ;)

I only care about what is best for everyone...and if that means locking up people who would corrupt the minds of the young with religious dogma then so be it.

I believe masturbation is considered wrong in the Abrahamic faiths is because the act of "lusting" as one member mentioned is the issue. Especially if the one entertaining the lust is a) not married b) if married but is lusting for another woman (which in some interpretations..

D'oh!
I don't think it's wrong, I think it's human nature. It's natural for one to be curious about their body.

I find the OPs post a little vague, so I'll try to cover all bases here.

I guess it depends who or what you're masturbating. I mean if it's yourself, then that's fine; but if it's your brother or your dog; then you need to take a serious look at yourself in the mirror!

well i hate to be the one to point this out, but the release of hormones is all about reproduction

If you are saying that sex is purely for reproduction, then why do women of a certain age have sex when they're beyond conceiving a child?

Because they enjoy it and it also helps maintain a bond with their partner.

In my opinion, masturbation is only wrong if someone is getting harmed, or if the individual develops an addiction which interferes with their life. It is a perfectly natural thing to do frequently, but in moderation, and it has been linked to a reduce in prostate cancer in men. It can release stress, and obviously, it feels nice.

Good sex is essential for good health. And if the partner isn't up to sex that day or when you're ready, masturbation is still a great option.

sorry guys but this man-thread makes me feel icky, so i'll be brief

masturbation is not directly condemned in the Bible but that doesn't mean it's harmless. Its a means of arousing ones sexual appetite and if your sexual appetite becomes too great, then you might find it difficult to resist the temptation to practice sex whenever you can and this will certainly put you at odds with Gods laws on sexuality and cleanness.

Colossians 3:5-6 "Deaden, therefore, YOUR body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of those things the wrath of God is coming.

Christians need to be found acceptable to God and if we loose control of our own sexuality by developing a sexual appetite that we cannot control, then we will likely stand disapproved.

Is a few seconds of pleasure really worth it?

Have you ever felt horny even once in your "christian" life?
