It's all so overwhelming

Wiccan Rede, reincarnation, the Golden Rule, the rule of three, the majority of the 10 commandments, every living thing has a soul, the Godess, the teachings of Buddha, ying and yang...[/QUOTE]

Wow - I can relate to that. I haven't 'found' a religion yet, but find things from several comfortable (my faith in the Goddess and the peace I've started to find in Buddhism).

Like others have said, to get around how overwhelming this seems, start with what you know, or feel strongly about (and sometimes why), and work from there. Let your faith in the Goddess guide you.

Happy Hunting,

How does a person ever decide what religion (if any) they believe in and will follow?

There is soooo much information out there about soooooo many different religions,
it seems like a person could study and read and learn and ponder their entire life
and never discover everything there is to know about all the different religions.

Very true, which is why I believe it is better to regard it is fundamentally untrue speculation. You can still dabble out of interest or you can find something else to read and learn and ponder over. Either way, save yourself some of your lifetime.

This is of course just my very humble opinion as someone who went from complete and devoted atheism (although born Jewish/non-practicing) to total and complete submission to God.
I have always and continue to love science, but now I see it as the study of Gods creation and creative process.I also see this creation (every bit of the known and even some of the speculated universe) as deliberate signs that point to the truth. I had a basic understanding of the concept of a singularity and that,to me, points to my ultimate truth, that there is a creator that very deliberately created us and all we know, what we are yet to know and what we will never know for a purpose. The creator is one and has no need of anything withitn creation or outside of it.
This idea lead me look for clear guidance from this creator. I read, I contemplated I asked questions of myself and others. I never sought out what appealed to me or what "fit with my lifestyle". I wanted the truth and looked for sense and confirmation. I am confident I have found it for myself and hope you will as well. I personally believe the most important thing The Creator wants from us is that we remember there IS a Creator. If you believe that, you can peacefully spend the rest of your time seeking to gain closeness to Him.

Perhaps, you should start with lunch?

Your question might be turned around to the following, "does a person need to decide on a religion"?

You can start with some positive basics that include respecting others and living a positve life?

Look around for positve people that inspire you. Ask what makes them inspire you.

Back the the religion question. Well, what can I say that's unbiased?

I might choose some great books to read and you may "connect" to one.

Let's say you do, does that make it "true"? No. Is truth important? I don't know.

Without knowing everything about any one given religion or all of them,
how can a person ever be 100% sure it is what they believe and will follow for the rest of their life????

So many religions... so little time :faint:

Why not start with the religion you were naturally born with?

Well, I believe the fundamental purpose of religion is spiritual guidance. So, perhaps you shouldn't think about it too much. Probably the best thing to do is pray for guidance. "To whom?", you might ask--just address that strongest feeling in your innermost heart. Then, just keep your eyes (and heart) open. Guidance will surely come.

Why pray? Why not simply open your eyes and look for inspiration in the now

I think praying helps to quiet the mind and awaken the spirit thus allowing one to focus and appreciate what it is one is truly seeking and also to reduce the tendency to become distracted from the goal so that what we seek may be recognized when it is presents itself.

We cannot choose to seek "Truth" --- "Truth", if it so chooses, will seek us.
