So all you have as 'proof' for the existence of God is a story of the past.
Oh I have much more, Ahmadi. I have Him in my heart. When I do wrong, I know He's there, and when I do right, I know He's there. He promised never to leave me, nor forsake me. So, in a sense, I don't really need proof. I walk by faith, not by sight; because without faith, it is impossible to please Him.

Thats nice. But for me, without evidence for his existence I couldn't give a rats a$$ what He thinks  . I certainly can't see the point in trying to please something/some-it that I don't even know exists nor for that matter in a being that patently doesn't show much love for His creation.

Fade, that's not being fair to God.

Every time He's comes here, we've asked Him to leave. To wit:
  • He wants to rule us from a tabernacle --- we ask for a king instead.
  • He sends His Son as a Servant --- we crucify him.
  • He sends the Holy Spirit --- we vex, grieve, and deny Him.
What more can God do for us that He hasn't done already?

The only thing I want to know is why do you digress when someone is said to have had 'divine inspiration'? Also, in order to determine the credibility of any person's words (let alone prophets) what would you need? What would be required to have something 'worth saying'?

Why would you agree/disagree with a person who claims that he has had divine inspiration?
When I speak of divine inspiration, I do not mean the mythological kind. My beliefs in this area will stray too far from the question of the existence of a god, and would be better off on its own thread.

What more can God do for us? Hello? Those three examples you provide don't show me that he has done anything for us.

to wit

point 1 - Rule us? Who died and made him God/King? I'll vote for my king thank you very much and one day I might choose to run for office myself.

point 2 - Son/Servant?? Eh? Turning water into wine and fondling lepers does not a saviour make. David Blaine is more fun philosophically anyway.

point 3 - Show me! Until then I will call you a deluded liar.

Since "have him in my heart" is an idiom, we know that you really have blood in your heart, and not some imaginary friend. This simply tells us that you have an overwhelming feeling of love, directed toward something metaphysical. It would be far better to direct such love toward the common man.

Beware he who plays your emotions. People become irrational when they are emotional.

there is no reason why the love cannot be directed both to the common man, and God (who, to me is not an imaginary friend).

What makes you think God is any different from an imaginary friend? I ask this as a serious question and do not mean to offend.

I have never had an immaginary friend who talks to me as clearly as God does - no offence taken, it's a fair question; I doubt though that you will accept the answer I have given. And, I don't believe I am schitzophrenic ( I have a few 'quirks' but voices from other selves is not one of them; believe me, I know that it is God. But I doubt that that is something you will accept - it is all I have to offer though.):)

I had an imaginary friend as a kid and I knew with absolute certainty that he was real until my parents sat me down and talked me through it rationally and logically. Until then his voice was strikingly clear and yet I now know that he wasn't real. For this reason I have to say that I don't accept your answer but I respect your belief and will leave it at that.:bounce

I cannot possibly read through this entire thread, but I do have a few questions.

1. If you believe in gods, why should you worry about those who do not?
2. If you believe in gods, why should you worry if other people believe in other gods?
3. If you do not believe in gods, what does it matter that others do?

This would be a pointless forum if we didn't care what other people thought.

They won't be playing your song, and the women will have far more on their minds than you.

What is is about us Christians that you find repulsive?

I suppose, but that isn't what I meant. I meant to address the rightness and wrongness of beliefs. It is one thing to inquire and another to judge; after all, religion is not an objective science. Certainly, one would be hard pressed to offer any proof or argument for their dogma.

And I feel sorry for you - that your parents should deny you your childhood friend was a shame; I never had one, but i know most children do, or have done. Thank you for the respect of my belief, and I reciprocate the gesture.:)

Usually, a shcizophrenic "knows" that god or someone else is talking to him. It is nearly impossible to tell the difference.

However, I have heard theories about this - how humans evolved from a bicameral mind. The "voice" is simply the subconscious "talking" to the conscious. This has often been mistake for a god of some kind. I imagine that it would be much like a dream. We can hear voices easily in a dream, and can carry on conversations essentially with ourselves.

Sometimes I wonder if shizophrenics simply have an underdeveloped connection between these two parts of the brain. Sometimes I wonder if some of these people who claim to talk to god have a similar condition, although not so severe. After all, if there is an extreme, there is usually a middle ground. However, I will not call it a "disorder" as it appears to be systematic.

It is interesting to note that you can get the same effect from some drugs - and I don't mean just street drugs.

Yes there is. As Jesus said, you will love one and hate the other. You can only focus on one at a time, so you will always be ignoring one or the other. I personally do not see how one can encourage intolerence, hatred, death, and destruction in the name of god, but it happens. If we focus on loving one another, like Jesus taught us, only then can we know god's love - since then we will be reflecting it everywhere. To focus on god is to skip the most important step, without which the aforementioned atrocities are born.

You shouldn't. I don't believe I would live my life much differently if I were an Atheist. Most of what we believe and the way we think are very similar.

Because of the things it makes them do. Fear, uncertainty, and doubt are all tools of the church, the partisan, and the corporation. People are told what to think, and rarely ever how to think. They like to appeal to our emotions rather than simply stating the facts. There is injustice in this system, not much different from when popes would crown the kings.
