What is "Heaven" and what is "Hell"?

It’s hard to talk about Hell in today’s world. People don’t want to think about judgment and eternal punishment, they find the thought repulsive, they don’t like it, so they choose not to believe it. But it’s not as easy as that. No one can make a thing untrue simply by determining not to believe it. The Bible teaches that there is a literal place called Hell, a place burning with fire and brimstone.

Heaven
There are two descriptions of Heaven, in the book of Revelation. The first is early in the book where John is given a view into Heaven before the judgment of the Earth, and the second is near the end of Revelation as a description of the new Jerusalem is given. Heaven is described as a place of “ laughter without tears”, “life without death” and “ pleasure without pain”.


But what about those who grew up in another religion and do not believe in Jesus Christ. They may not of commited any sins in their lifetime but do not accept Jesus as their lord. Do they still get sent to Hell or do they get sent to heaven. In the bible it also says that god will grant forgiveness if one asks for it. Does that mean anyone can commit any ammount of sins ask for forgiveness and be let into heaven?

Hell is not a place with fire and brimstone. That's the Catholics and the Baptists trying to scare you into being a good boy. Hell is merely a state of seperation from God. The burning mentioned in the Bible is the guilt that will riddle the unfortunate soul that actually experiences that state.

Heaven is like the garden of Eden. We will be resurrected beings that will have families and enjoy eternal progression with our loved ones.

No one can be saved or condemned in ignorance. Every soul that has walked the earth will hear about the Gospel at some point (if not here then in the spirit world). They will make their own decisions based on that knowledge and reap the benefits or consequences based on those informed decisions.

Hell a mere seperation from god? Are we not seperated from god now?

Dan, if you read the Bible, hell is described as having worms- what is your interpretation of that? And no where in the Bible is there a description of the appearance of heaven as being the garden of Eden. And Drewstorm, there is not a single person who has not committed a sin save for Jesus Christ. Look it up: Romans 3:10. No one can possibly keep the whole law, and if you break one teensy bit of it you are not worthy and have broken the whole thing: Romans 2:12.

And no, we are not separated from God on Earth.

Just want to add: another term for 'Hell' is 'The Lake of Fire'.

yup Revelation 20:14 "and death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."

I know, Keevelish. It was just an honest question. It just amused me if the Scripture put it that way. No harsh feelings.

Worms?
Revelation 9:2-3 says “When he opened the Abyss smoke ran from it like the smoke of a gigantic furnace. The Sun and the Sky were darkened by the smoke of the Abyss. And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given the power like that of scorpions of the Earth.” Revelation 9:10 says “They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in there tails had the power to torment people for five months”. More of scorpians then worms....

Why would god put us into such a lose-lose situation?

Oh! Yes God is Love. And someone is committed to an ever burning Hell, jumping from hot rock to hot rock, eternally, forever! His punishment for me not getting to his house before he died. I would follow a god like that through HELL!!!!!!! That is your Greek God.
The Creator/Elohim, the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob has man's body decay(in She'ol) into dust from which it came and the spirit goes back to God from whom it came. This is the God who is Love.

Christian, keep your Greek God! I want no part of him.

The Catholic faith does not profess that Hell is a place with fire and brimstone, and we surely don't want to scare anyone.

To walk with the Lord in love, not fear, is the goal of the Church.

SOGFPP, I'm only aware of what the Catholics and Baptists around here preach, and it's mostly threats and warnings. I cannot run into a member of either group without being told I'm going to Hell (more so the Baptists than the Catholics).

The Garden of Eden was a prototype for Heaven. The only difference between Adam's Eden and our Heaven is that we will have been resurrected and have perfect bodies and perfect knowledge. Temples are also models of the Garden of Eden, but I don't expect anyone to understand anything about that. The Bible is not the fountain of all truth, by the way. There are countless doctrines and truths that are not contained within those pages.

Kingdom of Heaven/HaShem. Kingdom of God. Kingdom of God present, Kingdom of God future, open to the Kings subjects, there are those who refuse to subject themselves to the King! The King wants all to come into the Kingdom. He has a great Gan Eden for you when you return home, your task is to serve in the Kingdom present. Don't want to serve him, you will cease to be. Choose a blessing or choose the curse.

Well, I would wager that it was somewhere other than this forum..... there are very few Baptists and I post more than any other Catholic here............ I am sorry that you have experienced that kind of false teaching by some confused Catholics out there...... there are good and bad ( more so educated and uneducated) in all faiths and belief systems.

Yes, you will (go to she'ol) if you die. There is no Hell except in Greek thought.

I allways found Heaven and Hell to be the most interesting of the Christian ideas....

Christian groups cant agree on how to get into either and spend what seems to me to be a lot of time condeming each other there almost for fun.
