Why or why not?

For this thread use the forum's definition of 'religion' which is: We define religion as any specific system of belief and/or/without worship, often involving a code of ethics and a philosophy.

No not all religions lead to God. If they are all teaching different things, and God is perfect and does not change, then all their different teachings can not be true, and things that are untrue can never lead to a God of truth.

That is not to say all churches are bad, some can still teach true principles and have elements of truth, if there is any truth wether it's taught by a Baptist or a Catholic or a Budhist, it will lead a person closer to God, so religions lead people to God only in proportion to the amount of truth they teach, and since they all teach different things and truth does not change then this proportion can not be the same and in some cases may not exist.

The Bahgavad Gita says God created all religions to suite different aspirants, times and countries; and that all religions are different paths up the same mountain. But if God's will is universal I find it hard to believe Buddha can say this is good, and Christ can say that is wrong. Morality and good vs. evil are not subjective. It kinda undermines the whole point of morality.

To answer the question, "Do all religions lead to God?", let us first define two important words. First of all, religion is nothing more than the study of man's experience. Theology is the study of God. Any clear study of the different religions show that there are major differences between: the nature of God, the Aseity of God, and the transcendence of God. There are religions that say you can become your own god. There is a religion that says that you just keep becoming reincarnated. Some people hold to a religious system that says that if I just do what is right, God will look down from the heavens above and grant me eternal life in heaven because I have been so good. I could go on an on an on, etc.
I have been a casual observer of this religious forum website for about three weeks now. There is a theme that tends to repeat itself over and over again in all of the postings. When a religion is attacked, it is usually Christianity. The deity of Christ is always questioned. The authority of the Bible is under attack. No one ever mentions the other religions in a negative light. Why does this happen? Because Jesus said it would happen. No one concerns themselves with a religious leader who is dead. Why are all the other religious leaders never criticized. Could it be because they are dead and in the grave? There has only been one who has ever conquered death and the grave. Because He lives, He is a threat to people who do not want to repent of their sin. Yes! There are major differences between the religions in the world! To say that all religions lead to God is to take the "broad" view. This is what Jesus said about taking that view. "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it"(Matthew 7:13-14). Again talking about the narrow road Jesus said in the Gospel of John, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me"(John 14:6).
Here is the major difference; The Cross! The cross itself proclaims a verdict upon fallen man. The cross says that God requires death for sin. However, God, in His son Jesus Christ, has given us a substitution. Jesus Christ died on the cross, shed His blood, and provided atonement and forgiveness of sins for all who would believe in Him for salvation. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is so different from other religions because it confronts and exposes man for what he really is, and that is a sinner. There is nothing about the cross that fits comfortably with how mankind views himself or his religion. The Gospel does cover the eternal issue of the fact that he is damned and desperately needs to be rescued. The question is not, Do all religions lead to God? The question is, How can an unjust man stand in the presence of a Just and Holy God? However, if any of these words are foolishness to you, I can understand. The Bible says,

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1st Corinthians 1:18).

Hm. By the forum's definition of religion, atheism is included. Since atheism is, by definition, the lack of belief in a god, seems to me this poll is more wordplay than anything else... unless we assume that the definition of religion includes 'a belief in one or more higher powers'?

Yes, but only to a certain extent. I am of the opinion that all religions have some truth in them but only one religion has the full truth and that would be Christianity. Different religions have varying degrees of truth. :)

That is due to the fact that a buddhist or a taoist does not rely so heavily on words. And christians feel that they are the only true religion. This by use of questioning can be seen to be false. The lovely part about some other religions such as buddhisma and taoism is that there is no need to look at them in a negative light. For they have done nothing that seems to be nagative at all. But christianity, well there are lots of things done in the name of christ that can be seen as negative. The crusades for example, witch hunts, etc...

If all religions led to God then the code and ethics of all those religions would be the same only in different languages.

Not true. The codes of ethics are simply imperfect humans trying to understand a perfect idea. Since that is impossible the codes of ethics differ based on culture and personal ideas. Ethics is not necessarily "god." Nor does "god" necessarily care about ethics.

I think all religions, if traced, would lead to Allah, as Allah sent a messenger to all the people.

If they led to God it implies God is found....that has yet to happen. The nature of its existance are based on theories and metaphyics as opposed to proof. A large portion of what exists in our reality cannot be proven but is that does not make it so or not so. It just makes it unproven.

Narrowing it down to key questions for each community or group makes it shareable and communial but nevertheless to say that religion leads to God is explict in detecting the finding of God via the 5 senses of man

1) sight
2) sound
3) taste
4) touch
5) smell

which has yet to be done. In our reality as man we can search for God, we can worship God we can feel connected with God but we cannot find God.

It depends on the definition of god. With some definitions, god has been found. With others, not. Perhaps a definition of god would be inherrantly good for this question.

This is untrue.
I myself have "attacked" Islam and Judaism in this forum.

The reason it is not as prevalent is becuase we do not have many people of other religions besides Christianity saying things like...

" For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God"

With the arrogance my experience can only attribute to a Fundamental Christian .

The Muslims and Jews in this forum do not show the intolerance I see from many Christians here.
I cannot imagine what I would have to do to get Salam to tell me to **** off.
I don`t see it happening.

My point is that I don`t see the other Abrahamic beliefs acting in such extreme arrogance and intolance as I do Christianity

He is a threat to people who do not want to repent of their sin. Yes!
He is no threat to me, he does not exist

The rest of your post is a textbook example of the arrogance, discrimination, and intolerance I mentioned above.

Thank you for allowing me such an easy point to make.

Everyone finds a way that works for them. Thus all paths lead to 'god'. Striving to better yourself in any way, no matter what the reason is IMHO reaching for 'god'.

Paintewolf, if all religons lead to God and none have found him/her/it (the divine has yet to be discorvered..ie proven to exist) than what you are saying is that all religions fail....as they all have paths leading to God but none of those paths make it possible to greet God. It is a consignment of false hope for any religion to foster ideas of discovery of God within their religion because it has yet to be acccomplished in the history of man. Suggesting that a religion will lead one to got is a measurement directly preportional to the short comings of that religion. It has never been done and will not likely be done anytime soon.
