Why does God care if we believe in him or not?

Though God isn't going to lose anything if you choose not to believe, he still feels betrayed, I'm sure. He created you, yet you defy him as your creator. Wouldn't you feel betrayed?
You are ascribing human emotions to something that is not human. So God created us, so what? Why should It care if we believe in It or not? Any God who gave a **** what we believed is little more than an oversized, cantankerous toddler.

So an axe murder who slayed his own family is on equal grounds with me? That doesn't seem all the fair.
All attack is a cry for help. If someone attacks you, you can make them at least pause for a moment by asking, "What hurts you so much that you feel you have to hurt me to heal it?"

 The true and living God does care and this is why Jesus came with this message that God loves us and He is with us.
The lord himself made known to us that a virgin shall bare a son and a name shall be given to him and he shall be called Jesus.
The meaning Jesus is God with us.
God does care about me, you and the world whether we are receiving his words of blessings to us all.

Yeah. An omnipotent being wants us to worship him.

I find it far more likely that religion is a method to control people, and thus they tell us God wants belief and worship so that people will allow the religion to control them.
