Do Hindu's believe or worship Lord Narasimhadeva?

I was curious because it seems most Hindu people I have met, are not familiar with Lord Narasimhadeva. He is of course Sri Krishna in the form of Half man, Half Lion. Anyone here familiar with this pastime?

It's part of the story about Prahlada Maharaja and his father Hiranyakasipu. Anyone familiar with those names?

i am. hes not much of a worshippable form. hes just a story. course i believe in it, but there are not shrines dedicated to it. kinda like bramha.

On the contrary, there are many temples in India where he is worshipped on the alter in deity form. He is VERY much worshippable. I will try to find a short story version to post. Its a wonderful pastime of Krishna.

really? my mom and i dont think there are many... at least where we come from. i mean, at least in temples. there maybe paintings and hes prevalant in stories, but usually the avatars of vishnu, kirshna and rama are worshipped. what about buddha?

I personally have never been to one, but have seen many pictures of the temples as well as the alters and Deities. They are beautiful! Im not sure what your question is about Buddha? Are you asking if Buddha is a incarnation of Krishna?

nah, ive been to many temples and i have never seen idols of buddha and brahma. i know the story behind why brahma is not worshipped as much. im surprised to know that narshima is worshipped with statues and an alter and all.

there are temples to narasimha and there is one temple to brahma in india in a place called pushkar.

anyways narasimha or half man/ half lion is part of what is known as the dasavathara or the 10 incarnations of the lord vishnu, as outlined by this sloka.

matsya kurma varahascha narasimhascha vamanah, ramo ramethi ramacha, krishna kalki janardhanah.

the 10 avataras are matsya - fish kurma - turtle, varaha - boar, narasimha (the protagonist of this discussion) vamana - dwarf, rama - parasurama the son of jamadagni and a warrior sage, rama - sri rama the son of dasaratha and here of ramayana, rama - balarama, son of vasudeva and elder brother of krishna, krishna - son of vasudeva and hero bhagavatha, kalki - the last avatara is supposed to happen in this kali yuga.

anyways i think that it is possible that these individuals or animals are a mixture of myths for the first few and human beings like you and me who were heros for the latter few, so the people made them gods and the last one is Hope.

hope it is useful

I love the story of Narasingha. It teaches that no one can outsmart God and no one is greater than God. Also that God will always find a way to protect his devotees even if the odds may seem negative. Even though many people don’t pray to Narasingha directly, he is a manifestation of that one God we all pray to, no matter what name we call him. The Rig Veda states that God is one but is called by different names.

Worship whatever Aspect is most helpful to you. It's all the same Reality. Remember that, ultimately, there is only Brahman. All else is maya. All else is personal fable.

Keep in mind that Hinduism is psychotherapy, not religion in the Abrahamic sense. Choose the Yoga that most efficiently frees your own mind.
