Oh where oh where has God...

Really, it occurs to me that God hasn't really been around for the last 2000 years, discounting our LDS friends. So, why was God seemingly so active in the period prior to the Jesus myths, and so quiet since. I say say seemingly because the world hasn't been short of wannbe messiahs, although you only have their word for what they spout forth. No, the really big biblical stuff seems to to have ended.

Any thoughts ?

One day god said to Abraham, "Abraham, go up on top of that mountain over there and kill your son." Abraham was like, "Dude, no way!" Then god was like, "Aww, for me?" So then of course Abraham gave in and went up on top of the mountain with his son. Right as he was about to kill his son god spoke up again. "Hey Abraham, I was just kidding!"

Thinking of this great bible story it makes me believe that god does still talk to people today. Just he goes by a different name... Schizophrenia.

It certainly seems true that many of the things traditionally ascribed to the work of deity or the supernatural have been explained by science to be natural, non mystical phenomenon.

I got myself into abit of a bad situation today, and just before it got even worse, someone that I knew would bail me out showed and helped me out. I know that at least my guardian spirits are there, and probably calling me a dumb*** right now.

Maybe I'm just schitzophrenic, but my God's been pretty active lately... Though I fail to notice the actions sometimes :162:

If want to see God in things, you will. I'd like to think God was walking with me, but I feel so alone. God can be what you want God to be. Sometimes, as the song says, God is a DJ, when the music lifts you, you can feel God.

It seems to me, ok, that God promoted the interests of his chosen people, but where are the old style prophets wandering the desert and speaking through God ? It seems to me that God has changed tack in the modern age, or maybe there is just more scrutiny of would be messiahs.

Actually, wasn't it God speaking through the prophets?

At any rate, it was my understanding that the doubters killed off all the old style prophets?

I think there's a difference. The prophets don't get the word out by wandering the deserts. They get the word out by talking to people. I'm thankful for the people who take the time to let God speak through them.... sometimes it's actions, sometimes it's words, sometimes it's a specific message, sometimes it's even what most people perceive as a "coincidence."

Anyhow, the Messiah (Savior) has come and will return. Sure there will be false messiahs before the real One returns, but most bel ievers will see right through them :D

You remind me of my Dad; he was a lovely man - but in his later years he became very 'isolated' and deaf - Mine was the only voice he could hear - and that was because it is very low pitch, and I have good production - through singing. In his laterr days, he could not even understand me in English - I had to resort to his first language -French.

He would get up to the most incredible of capers - ones that would have ended in disaster had it been me.

He had a motorized scooter (a four wheeled buggy) - he would be trundling along, on the pavement, and suddenly, thefancy would take him across the main road.........

Did he look - of course not! when the whim took him, he would cross - totally oblivious to the screech of brakes, of frustrated bus drivers punching their horns in frustration. He never looked once. One day, My son and I popped round to see him.

"Ah "he bellowed "I ham just getting my lunch , I ope you don't mind if I heat it?" - please do, we told him.(The h's in the wrong place are typical of a Frenchman)

His lunch consisted of a pork chop, which he had cooked in the microwave; salad (Preprepared in little supermarket trays ) - which he kept in the freezer - and some oven fries.

James and I never quite knew where to look, nor what to say; at times such as these, it took a lot of control not to burst out laughing(not at him, in a nasty way - but at the sheer impossibility of the messes in which he would get himself .......

The pork chop was virtually raw - it was bloody; the oven chips looked like chargrilled twigs, and the salad was all damp, and still cold......

I'd say his guardian angel was on overtime....:D

Or maybe people have stopped listening because they believe they don't need God. I mean look at what all man can do...even creating life by cloning.

Now, I can't allow you to totally discount the LDS view, so I'll chime in. I can't say it as well as some others, though, so here is a link to a great talk, and a quote from it.

http://www.lightplanet.com/response/profile.htm
"May I suggest some possible reasons why he has not spoken. Perhaps it is because he cannot. He has lost the power."

He said, "Of course that would be blasphemous."

"Well, then, if you don't accept that, perhaps he doesn't speak to men because he doesn't love us anymore. He is no longer interested in the affairs of men."

"No," he said, "God loves all men, and he is no respecter of persons."

"Well, then, if you don't accept that he loves us, then the only other possible answer as I see it is that we don't need him. We have made such rapid strides in education and science that we don't need God any more."

And then he said, and his voice trembled as he thought of impending war, "Mr. Brown, there never was a time in the history of the world when the voice of God was needed as it is needed now. Perhaps you can tell me why he doesn't speak."

My answer was, "He does speak, he has spoken; but men need faith to hear him.

I'm doing just find with God, the question is not whether God had been active it is where have you been looking to find God? Look around you the world is chaning, people are coming to better beleifs, people are more accepting then they used to be, hundreds of books each year are being put out on new age spirituality, people are coming together to help change the world. My answer to you Kowalski is not to look for God outside yourself, look within yourself for the answers, God is many things to many different people.

I guess God's been over here across the big water, because it is often the topic of discussion and/or debate here in the US. Religion is just as big as politics. The was recent controversy over the 10 commandments being in the courtrooms, (they have considered it unconstitutional). There are always religious protesters fighting the government on one issue or another. God is very much in the lives of Americans, from what I have seen. I see miracles everyday, when I look for them. God never leaves, we just take him for granted and forget to see him there.
