So I had this dream

Basically, these men were whippinging me (I know how homoerotic is that) but it was somekind of Egyptian pheoronic slave master kinda thing. But I kept thinking and screaming the phrase "piety through pain" or "pain through piety" most likely the first one.It reminded me of Xipe Totec, the flayed one.Could this be some sort of calling?

That sounds doubly painful.

I'm a proponent that our dreams speak to us in symbols, which is to say in things that will mean something only to us, but don't mean what the story literally presents. My dreams are often in the form of detective and mystery stories (go figure).

Except for the bugs.

Perhaps what came up in this dream (the phrase, the pain, etc.) will become clearer in subsequent dreams.

Are you saying that your calling is Pain, or somehow you will attain "Piety" threw pain? I can tell you that no real Piety comes from pain. No one becomes Pious threw pain, but threw their compassion towards others and spreading their Love. Sometimes people are punished for this (Jesus Christ), but it is not the pain that made him Pious, its the Love and Forgiveness that he gave to others. I dont agree with some christians that say because Jesus suffered, he is Pious, no! Its his Love and Forgiveness that made him Pious.

I feel like this is a dream that is saying, "Become Pious!", but it has somehow become distorted and mixed with other content of the mind. Be Compassionate, spread forgiveness to yourself and to others, and your automatically Pious!

If anything I said is incorrect, please bring it to the surface so we can talk more! :)

While that is a lovely statement, I am not a Christian and I do not believe in one god.

You dont have to be a christian or believe in God. Jesus was just an example. I am not Christian and dont believe in a personal God. But I still believe in Compassion and Forgiveness of oneself and others.

Well compassion isn't a huge thing in my religious philosophy.

Brilliant, as usual, Patty.

To Antibush5: Though I am mindful that this is a DIR area, I find your symbols to be quite interesting. To flesh out what Patty was saying above, dream symbols are often dramas of literal themes. In the above, the theme, from my viewpoint is that you are quite literally letting external forces beat some weird "truth" into you. I do not envy the one whose path seeks to pound reality into their experience. Given your comment about compassion I would advise that when reality come callin' that you sit up and pay very close attention.

Not likely. It's more of a "wake up" call to get you to pay attention to what you are doing to yourself.

I sometimes have really crazy dreams. Two nights ago I dreamed I was towing a 20 yard roll-off dumpster behind a Harley Davidson. I navigated a narrow alley and was feeling pretty good about myself. An access ramp to the interstate is a block away and my destination is right off the interstate just a few miles away. I reach the highway and start down a long steep hill when I realize there is construction ahead at the bottom of the hill. A bridge is out and a temporary bridge made of metal grates has been erected. (I hate those grates when I am on a motorcycle.) I am picking up speed and cannot slow down. The dumpster is pushing me.
I wake up with my heart trying to pound itself out of my chest and I feel I can't breath. I keep telling myself "This can't be real. This can't be real."
I make a beeline to the bath room to run cold water over my head to calm down.
I hate it when that happens. Maybe I need therapy.

Its tricky business interpreting my own dreams let alone trying to do it for someone else. Antibush I rather got the impression after reading the dream, that as you later confirmed, compassion wasn't high in your religious philosophy. You've probably got at least an inkling of what this dream may well represent. So you're the best person to figure it out.

do you know the difference between, food, stress and symbolic dreams, when you dream?
did you see the faces of the men whipping you?
did you wake up sweating, teary, scared, angry, moody, confused, humble and low that day?

(souds like a near death experience of someone will change something in you)

please describe as much as you seen in your dream about the egyptian like.

Love, do you have anxieties when you are awake?
are you under stress you dont reveal?
have you ever experienced shingles?
it sounds like unhealthy stress

Yes I do have a problem with anxiety. A few years ago I was involved in a head on collision with another car and went into a spin and was struck by a large truck in the door next to where I was sitting. I was told by speacialist that the injuries to my left arm and leg were permanent. I have since been able to over come my physical injuries but the anxiety of riding with someone else lasted for years.
For the last 2 and a half years I have had to over come this for my daughter and 3 grandson's ages 3, 5, and 7. I pick up my grandsons after work 5 days a week from the baby sitter, bring them home, cook their dinner, bath them and put hem to bed. I keep them all day on Saturday.
I bought a small home on the beach in preparation for retirement and it is due to be paid off in 2012. It is not big enough for the 5 of us so I had to lease it out and go in with my daughter on a bigger house.
It is a big difference going from living on my own with plenty of privacy to keeping 3 very active young boys all the time.
The problem is none of their other grandparents have the time for them and I don't mean that literally. They just don't want to be bothered or they can't handle it.
My daughter's ex is in jail now but he didn't pay child support when he wasn't.
Don't take me wrong, I love them with all my heart and would never abandon them, but lately I have been taking medication for stress and high blood pressure.
I know I got completely off thread but you asked at a time when I needed to unload.

And no I have never had shingles and don't know what it is.
