Any fantasy fiction fans here?

I'm just wondering who are your favourite fantasy writers?

Mine are China Mieville, George RR Martin, Tolkien (obviously) and Paul Kearney.

i used to read alot of Terry Brooks

I like Stephen King, Ann Rice, and Richard Knack (I think I spelled that right).
Ive just started reading King's Dark Tower books.

Other than that I love Marion Zimmer Bradley for her amazing Mists of Avalon. Also I like authors who try and mix the modern day world with fantasy, especially magic, such as Jonathan Stroud and, to a lesser extent, J K Rowling.

Another author who I love is Garth Nix for the Sabriel-Lirael-Abhorsen trilogy which really did leave me wanting for more.

I don't find any fantasy writers that I really dislike. I do remember really getting into Piers Anthony right after high school. He has a style all his own. Tolkein, for sure. I have loved his writing since my senior year when I read the Hobbit and Trilogy. God bless his soul at rest. Brooks is cool, though I read his Shannara series years ago, and fell out of it. Any writers under the TSR or D and D, or Forgotten Realms line is a hero of mine. I only hope to someday write in a Shared World setting!

J.K. Rowling, R.A. Salvatore, David Eddings...(checks bookshelf)...Tolkein, Andre Norton, Heinlein...

Those are my big ones.

I also write Fantasy, Science Fiction and Gothic Horror, though I've been wrestling with the labels lately. According to some, even most of my non-horror work is "dark," which, as far as I can tell, means "takes real risks." See my thread on Being a Christian Horror Writer.

Piers Anthony is another one of my favorites. I love the Incarnations of Immortality seriers.
My two favorite classic authors are Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft is my favorite author out of all other authors.

i love tolkien, i loved the lord of the rings before it was even made a film, and i loved the films aswell (even though they didnt get the story completely right)

but ill tell you who else i love, terry pratchett, in my oppinion, he writes like tolkien only with humor! i love his discworld series! its the best, i highly recomend his works

I think we would have got out of the theaters not to long ago if they put the whole Lord of The Rings story in the movie.

I stumbled upon them quite by accident ten years ago. I needed a book to read on a long train trip, and picked up The Diamond Throne in a discount bin for $2. I was hooked within a very short time and begged and borrowed to get my hands on the rest of those two series' lol. Now I own most of their books...I got the Belgariad and Malloreon series' when I joined a book club years ago, but I'll admit I hadn't actually made time to read them until recently.

I'm halfway through the Malloreon right now, once I finish those I've just got The Rivan Codex and The Redemption of Althalus left unread in my bookshelf. I use Lady_Polgara as a handle on a couple other message boards, and my signature line is a quote of hers.

I knew I recognised that line from somewhere!! Make sure to read the prequel of the same name, it is, in my opinion, better than both series put together.

Susan Cooper - The Dark is Rising series is excellent. I read them at high school and I'd read them again tomorrow.

Mark Chadbourne - The Age of Misrule trilogy - which I've read and was excellent and Scissorman, which was a pick up from a $2 chuck out table at the newsagent and was a top buy, in my humble opinion. I'm yet to get to The Dark Age trilogy, which follows on after the Age of Misrule.

Lloyd Alexander - The Pyrdian Chronicles. J.K. Rowling wasn't the first person to write what are essentially books aimed at children that easily cross the age barrier.

Anne Rice - I owned all The Vampire Chronicles and all the Lasher series, then I lent them to my mother and she sent them to a second hand book shop.:banghead3 She bought me 'Blood Canticle' when it came out, but that hardly made up for the loss of the others. I have to say that I couldn't get into 'Violin' at all, but 'Servant of the Bones' is one of my all time favourites.
