Strangely, I am a Christian of sorts

I'm beginning to think I'm a liberal Christo-Pagan, because though I am a New Age Pagan, I believe that Jesus's philosophy was so right and is so misunderstood. Jesus was the original hippy, he would have been a liberal (probably a member of the Green party, if any party), for he was a leader in the struggle for our souls' civil rights. He wanted the truth to be known about Who We Are, and it is so sad that power-hungry politicians took advantage of peoples' illiteracy to edit the Bible for their own personal gain, the best example being King James's slice-and-dice re-writing of the Bible to justify his extensive witch hunts, changing phrases like "Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live" to "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."

Jesus was a rebel, a freedom fighter for the souls of mankind from the idea of an opressive and evil God.

If Jesus was alive today, he would explain his message thusly: "When I said that I and the Father are One and that you are all my siblings, I meant that we are ALL one with God. God and us are One Being, pretending to be Many."

And

"When I said, 'Let me be the light and the way,' I didn't mean that believing in me as your lord and savior was the answer... I meant I want you to EMULATE ME, if you think you cannot come to my peace on your own, and if you have a hard time believing that we are all One. Live as I lived... not the details, either, just the essence: live in oneness and unity and peace will be yours. The Kingdom of God is YOUR kingdom, it is OUR kingdom, because WE ARE GOD. Heaven is NOW HERE."

If Jesus forgave the criminals hanging beside him, and the people who hung him by his WRISTS from the cross with ROPE, then why should we not forgive as well? Christians are fond of saying, "Judge not, lest ye be judged," but they don't seem to know what it really means. Jesus, if he were alive today, would no doubt explain it like this:

"When I said, 'Judge not, lest ye be judged,' I meant that other humans might judge you. God does not judge, so why should you? Make decisions, yes, but judge not. Condemn not. For all attack is a cry for help, and all your fear and hatred and prejudice of those who you would call perverted or who are of another race, is just based in ignorance and lack of understanding. Get to learn that all people are humans just like you. Even if you do not believe the truth of our Oneness literally, know that what helps another helps you (just as what helps you helps another), for what helps one human helps the whole species."

I think, if we adopted this policy, that our ideas about what helps us would be broadened, and we could stop hurting the earth. Because what I don't understand is why suicide is considered a blasphemy to God, but smoking one's self to death is not. Why is killing another for one's personal reasons a sin, but killing in the name of God or in a war is not? I would think, logically, that killing in the name of God would be the ultimate blasphemy. And why is it a sin to use contraceptives or have anal sex, but it isn't considered a sin to pollute? Isn't mistreatment of the Earth a defilement of God's creation and, therefore, a blasphemy?

yes iagree with some of the things you say ,and i think that you are so right when you say that killing in the name of God is ultimate blashemy, also that the earth is being ruined must make Gods heart so sad.but Gods word the bible tells us that God is going to bring those ruining the earth to ruin....revelation 11;18and he will put things right on the earth
Just as a landlord ejects a destructive tenant, so God will "eject" those who ruin his beautiful creation, the earth.

The Bible says As regards the wicked, they will be cut off from the very earth ,and as for the treacherous, they will be torn away from it." (Proverbs 2:22) This coming divine action the Bible calls Armageddon. (Revelation 16:16) Jesus also called it great tribulation such as has not occurred since the worlds beginning until now, no, nor will occur again." (Matthew 24:21) It will be even greater than the Flood. but no worries it will only be the wicked

You sound pretty cool. I like liberal Christians a lot, especially since when the fundies arrive I can point at liberal Christians and say, "See? You don't have to change your beliefs, just expand on them. Christianity has done so in the past, to keep up with the expansion of knowledge, why can't you do it now? There's nothing to fear."

One thing I've been wondering lately about the fundamentalists is this: if humans were cast into sin for eating of the tree of knowledge, then why isn't it a sin to assume you have all the answers? Wouldn't it be a bit prideful of a Christian to claim to have all the answers? Or any answer about God at all?

Sort of reminds me of something one of the Conversations With God books said. "Tomorrow's God," to be exact. It said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that either humans have to change how they treat the Earth or Life on Earth is going to adapt itself to the mistreatment, and we may not like the consequences if such were to happen. So either we shape up or Life will make us ship out.

I believe in a massive flood that inspired the biblical one, though I doubt it covered the whole world. But there is scientific evidence that the Flood was based on a grain of truth. Also, there's evidence of the Ark being real too, though I'm sure it wasn't quite what it was thought to be. Maybe it had pieces of a radioactive meterorite in it or something.

Anyway, I don't believe in, say, the "Tim LaHaye" version of an apocalpse, but maybe those lines you quoted are saying the same thing that "Tomorrow's God" was saying, only more dramatically.

I know, it's confusing; I didn't know that calicos tend to be female before I chose the username "kaliko kat."

It is confusing; I have to 'rethink you' now:D ...

Jocose, I may have done it myself (misadvertently); don't you think that referring to IndigoChild as 'he' - ie in the third person, in front of HIM (Got to change my way of thinking), is a trifle bad-mannered.....I must check and see that I have not made the same mistake........ , but that will be for another time. tonight, it is goodnight from me, and its goodnight from him (and all the English on the forum will no doubt remember that wonderful comedy that always ended on that note):)

You were doing great until you used the term "fundies". I would suggest that it sounds suspiciously like a judgemental term to me. :D

I agree with some of what you said. God does judge, and he is able since he is perfect, and we shouldn't since we are completely imperfect. Most of those who claim to be Christian don't know how to forgive or even how to love. I am still working on both. Jesus would have made a lousy hippy. As a former hippy I can tell you he was FAR TOO INTENSE about spiritual concepts.

Sorry about that, it was just intended as a shortening of "fundamentalists," as it is such a very long word.

God merely observes, and does not judge. Who would She judge? There is only One of Us, and We are She.

You think hippies weren't intense at first?

Jesus was a Master. He Mastered life, as did Buddha, Krishna, Bahalula (spelling?), and Mohummad (sp?).

"Fundamentalists" is just as judgemental. Have I used it? Unfortunately, yes. But it's a misnomer at best, and they are better characterized as "extremists" instead. In any respect, pigeon holing any group of people is pre-judging them. We call it profiling now.

God is spirit and is niether male or female. Your gender hang up is showing. :D I would love to know how you know whether God judges or not. My guess is that you are also guessing.

Hippies were never intense. Yippies were, but few people know about them.

Not only was that very well put, Indigo Child, but expresses my own feelings about Christianity almost completely.
