Beautiful: an omnipotent and omniscient God has his "original purpose" thwarted by the disobedience of his intelligent design; life spans "approaching a thousand years" dropped suddenly after the Flood; and Moses authored Psalms. Thanks for the cogent summary. :biglaugh:
The portion I have highlighted in Red, Deut;

The manner in which you have phrased it, God has been 'thwarted'. Now I know, as I am sure you know, that The purpose of our ability to deviate from what God would expect from us is what life is really all about - in the religious mindset. The choice is ours - and our decision on whether to accept this as a fact - or to ignore it, because that suits us better (Or maybe gives us more freedom) - is the whole point of life.

Surely you can understand that ?:)

There can be no expectation in the absence of uncertainty, To speak of an "ability to deviate from what God would expect" is nonsensical when applied to an omniscient deity.

Surely you can understand that ? :)

I'm sorry, I am not sure what you mean. I know I am slow; 'The absence of uncertainty' means certainty ?:)

God’s original purpose was for man to live forever. The first man Adam had the opportunity to enjoy an endless life span, subject to obedience to God. (Genesis 2:15-17) However, because of disobedience, Adam forfeited that opportunity, and from him all the human race inherited sin and death.—Romans 5:12.

Many of the pre-Flood patriarchs, being closer to Adam’s original perfection, possessed life spans approaching a thousand years. (Genesis 5:5-31) After the Flood, the human life span dropped suddenly, and by his time Moses could write: "In themselves the days of our years are seventy years; and if because of special mightiness they are eighty years, yet their insistence is on trouble and hurtful things."—Psalm 90:10.

I really doubt that God would put us in a position where we could mess up his plan. If it were possible, he would cease to exist.

Maybe they just had a hard time keeping track of time back then... I heard that if you marry the wrong person life feels like it lasts an eternity. :)

well the real one who has tried to mess up Gods plan is the opposer of God, satan the devil . but as you say Gods purpose will be fullfilled
Jehovah of armies has sworn, saying: "Surely just as I have figured, so it must occur; and just as I have counseled, that is what will come true...Isaiah 14;24

so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it Isaiah 55;11.......so satan can try to have the worship for himself but in the end it will spell disaster for himfor even trying to think he is better than God .God could have got rid of satan as soon as he told lies to adam and eve , but the issue has got to be proved that Gods rules are better than satans rules. it is the issue of universal sovereignty. just think when satan told lies to adam and eve all of the other angels would have been looking on at this ,and they would be thinking ok i wonder if they can rule themselves instead of being obedient to God.so this issue has got to be proved beyond a dought that mankind was not created to rule himself with out Gods way of doing things.but in the end God will win because he is the best.

That makes absolutely no sense to me at all. If that were the case, it seems pretty strange that He would have put them in a position where they would likely sin sooner or later. Why didn't He simply prohibit the serpent from tempting them in the first place? If He'd wanted them to live forever, He could have quite easily arranged for that to happen by eliminating the opposition right off the bat.
Besides, one of Jesus's titles is "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." Had Adam and Eve never partaken of the forbidden fruit, they would not have needed a Savior. But God had appointed a Savior long before they ever appeared on the scene. I believe that Adam and Eve were instrumental in fulfilling God's original purpose.

And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth.

What does this verse mean? I'm assuming that Adam's son, Seth must have been begotten in his "spiritual" image and "spiritual" likeness (whatever on earth that means :confused: ), because we already have a biblical precedent for the use of those phrases. It must not mean that he had a son who looked like him, who was human in form. That would be far too simple, wouldn't it? We like to complicate things by saying that they don't really mean what they say; they really mean something else entirely. ;)
