How can Anyone still take Young Earth Creationism seriously?

Thanks for the welcome :)
Yes, my jaw dropped when I was first introduced to 'problem' #1. I didn't realise someone could be so arrogant and dismissive over a subject they so clearly had absolutely no understanding of.
I still haven't gotten used to some of their replies - so I usually just end up shaking my head in disbelief. However, I strongly suspect I will end up attacking my desk and keyboard if I have to read such responses in the future.

Atleast sometimes they provide me with a few laughs ;)

Welcome,

Yes it is a laugh the first couple of times you see the same debunked arguments, but when you have seemed to have corrected them as you get no response once replying, it gets frustrating when they are back using the same argument the very next day.
However the job still needs to be done as they are trying to get their rubbish into schools, so in my opinion these ignorant views need to be opposed in work, school and on the web.

It seems to me that for many people believing in YEC brings social rewards that they believe to far outweight the lack of intelectual honesty.

Particularly when they have other reasons not to want to be very honest about their ideas to begin with. Reasons such as fear of change and simple hipocrisy.

Of course, there are also those who realize the political potential of such angst and lie shamelessly in order to tap into that potential.

I agree - it is extremely irritating...

However, things like the "why don't we life evolving in peanut butter?!" argument is just so full of fail that it somehow becomes hilarious. Yet at the same time, a bit depressing - I admit.

I also agree with your last point. Although debating with creationists can't be good for my sanity - it needs to be done! Regardless of how futile it may be. Maybe, one day it will get through... but I only dream :(

Oh, and thanks for the welcome! :)
