Welcome to the freedom of speech!

I'll probably regret posting in this thread, but oh well.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say whatever you want with no consequences whatsoever. It means you can't be jailed or worse for saying unpopular things.

Was she? No. That IS freedom of speech.

She has Freedom to say whatever she wants.
She is also responsible for the consequences of her speech.
That is how Free Speech works.

"get the hell out of Palestine," and that the Jewish people should go home to "Poland, Germany ... and America and everywhere else." Is inflammatory and not a wise thing for a prominent White House corespondent to say.
But her right to Free Speech keeps her from being jailed by the authorities for saying it. (That's how it works)

(I am however sick and tired of the 'Anti-Semite' label being applied to anyone who criticizes Israeli policies.}

Where is the freedom of speech the west has been talking about? I really wonder :sarcastic
Is anyone who criticizes Israel is anti-semite?

Our Constitution guarantees us Freedom of Speech, but it does not guarantee there will be no consequences for what we say.

However, that being said, I sympathize with Ms. Thomas and I agree with the sentiments of your post. I think the fallout from her criticism of Isreal has been unduly harsh. And yes, lots of times even the most innocuous criticisms of Isreal get unfairly labeled anti-semitic.

Over reaction, I suspect the current frustration with Isreali attitudes is more to do with it than any clear case of anti-semitism. I fully support Israels right to exist, being part of the world community that condoned its formation in 1946. I do however get damned annoyed at the entrenched stubborness that is often apparent with the Israelis especially the new settlements on Palestinian land.

I think it is naive to suggest if the blockade running had succeeded Humus would not immediately use it to smuggle arms.

Cheers

I prefer Guacamole with my AK-47

I have to say I rather agree with the woman in the video...
to me Israel is just another self imposed Ghetto...

the Jewish religion, unlike Eastern ones, very much embraces the world
and being in the world, enjoying all God has given us.
As such the whole, setting aside a special place where only people with the same mindset, hairstyle, clothes, special umbrella plant...etc. is to my mind absurd..and frnakly is what occurs when fanaticism is allowed to occur.

That being said, Israel has been around a few decades now. Its time for IT to grow up, and for the Palestinians to grow up also.

Until allthe Christians go home to Bethlehem...we can never have whirled Peas.

I'm just wating for the Scientologists to start the first colony on Mars and state its their holy land and no one else can live there...pooo pooo poooo

There really are not clear cut guarantees when it comes to freedom of speech.

However, I do think she was judged rather harshly not to mention the distortions in her story that were misreported.

I think people need to speak out against Israel more, and I say that as a Jew. Israel needs to be criticized more, because it obviously isn't getting the message. It broke international water laws just recently. The UN has played namby pamby with Israel long enough.

I don't believe that there is such a thing as freedom of speech. People cannot say whatever they want with impunity.
Culturally it is acceptable in the west to have a go at things like the Prophet, etc. Freedom of speech is used as a cover from time to time but I don't believe in it.

Is anyone who criticizes Israel is anti-semite?

No. Some of the Israeli papers criticise Israel.
I've not heard the idea put forward by anyone worth listening to.

What I am angry at and don't like is that anything and everybody can be critisized, insulted and laughed at even Prophets who are perfect being and who must be respected. However, when it comes to Israel and once you say something bad about it, you are frown at and insulted and called anti-semite.

I am not talking about Israeli people criticizing Israel, that's an internal affair and something between them, and they cannot call each other anti-semite anyway.
You know what, even Arabs are semites and they are called anti-semite, what's an irony :sarcastic

I can understand your position Peace. There is a double standard and it is not right. Islam and the Prophet are not accorded the respect adherents believe they deserve. To my mind that is reason enough to offer respect.
