Do You Believe in Soulmates? Why or Why Not?

I am pretty sure I do. I think I already had my chance at my soulmate, and I lost it. Irony.

No. I don't think there's any special destiny stuff, and there's not some special person who is "meant" for you. It just doesn't seem like it would be real. Since I believe everything is pointless and all that, there's no reason why I'd think there was someone out there that was designed just for me. I say Baggins is my soul mate, but we aren't mates... He can be my soul puppy, and I'm his soul sister. :D It's just an expression though, because I love him so much.

No. Do I believe that there are some people we will be happy with, and some we won't? Yes. Do I believe that the former number is smaller than the latter? Yes. But in the end, a marriage/love is about hard work and chemistry. Not destiny.

Yes..I believe in soulmates..I just dont think that means we only get one.

Everyone(we al) have a soul...You never know how many mates you will get.

And Im not just talking romantic..But that included..

I believe we do and I believe whether you are introverted or extroverted plays a major role.
I also believe there are two pairs of( dominant and sub dominant) on each side on introversion and extroversion.

I believe it's quite possible to find someone that is a "right" match. And I think that person could be considered a soul mate but I don't subscribe to the notion that everyone is meant to find that one special person.

I'm not sure there's such a thing, but maybe kindred spirits is an idea I could accept, like you said Miss Alice.

I think that many people think that they have lost the chance...

But what makes you so sure that if you did miss "that chance" that you will be happy now...

You may be happier now than if you did not miss that chance...
it's very hard to work out or to simulate a "what if" kind of questions...

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
"There is no what might have been. There is only what is."

My point is that whenever we think of "what might have been," we tend to simply romanticize the possibilities. We never think, "Well, what might have been is that we fell hopelessly in love, and then I realized too late that she was manic depressive and wouldn't take her meds, and the next thing I knew she had drowned all five of our kids in our bathtub."

Also, I don't think that there's only one soulmate out there for us. I think there are any number of compatible mates out there for people, because I think compatibility boils down to personality, birth order, genetics, pheremones, and sheer chance.

Bon apetit!

Can we define soulmate first? I don't even know what a soul is, much less how it mates with another soul.

Good question, dust1n. The term's lost its original meaning in recent years and become a synonym for "really good friend."

"Soul mate" refers to entities that have been increasingly closely, more intimately connected over repeated incarnations; entities destined eventually to merge. it's an eastern concept. How the western countries with Abrahamic traditions got hold of it I don't know.

Perhaps the intensely intimate connections
between two such uncommonly compatable people
are at least intuitively felt as such.

Perhaps the experience of Shared completeness of Being
is so overwhelming and pervasive to the dynamic of the relationship,
that said partners quite naturally intuit the eastern concept inherent
in the words "soul mates".

I agree I don't think we have just one soul mate in the world but there is repeated patterns of personalities you will notice from person to person. There is always the shy quiet person who stays to themself in the corner and always the one who likes to be center of attention.I have noticed myself about 8 different repeated patterns(could be more) and if they were evenly distributed it would mean that one out of eight could be a possible soul mate. You always have your jocks and preps and those into arts from school to school and always seems to be the same repeated behaviours. This is what I observed and not a science although I think it could be.

If soulmate is as Hannah said, "someone out there that was designed just for me," then I do believe in that, as long as it is recognized that we each are the designers of our own soulmate. (Even if it's "God".)

It would take 2 such 'willing' designers though
to really make things happen. ;)
