Namaste,

We can pray as many times a day as we want. The more the better. Usually just around sun rise and sun set are considered particularly good times to pray because it is a transition period and is seen as auspicious.

We pray all sorts of different ways. We may sing the names of God, chant mantras, perform puja (offerings), or just talk to him.

Aum Hari Aum!

I'm a pretty average Protesant Christian, but the way I pray may differ from others that would identify as the same. It can differ a lot between Christians, as there's no real set way, but I'll give you insight into how I do it. :)

I pray multiple times a day, usually depending on circumstance. The harder the day, the more I pray. If I'm doing a formal prayer (like before I eat, at church, etc.) my hands are folded. Otherwise I just say it in my head as I'm going about my daily activities and need some divine assistance, or want to give thanks.

KrishnaKanta pretty much said it. Hindus pray is many ways at all different times and occassions.

Some examples:

A person who has been given Gayatri sits three times a day to recite the prayer mantras; morning, midday and evening.

When we enter a temple, we pay obeisances to the deities and recite prayer mantras to guru and God.

At any time that we remember, it is recommendable to chant the names of the Lord.

Before we eat, we offer food to God through mantra and prayer and at the table we sing mantras/prayers.

One very central method of communion is through meditation. This is the best way to come to know God.

Whenever we wish to communicate with God, we simply say a prayer.

During worship, which for many occurs daily, there is both reading of scripture and singing bhajans. Bhajans are prayer songs.

There are many times for prayer!

Greetings! :)

We have many prayers in the Baha'i scriptures, and most of them are very free-form and can be done casually, as the individual prefers!

A very few have special rules and procedures, including the Baha'i burial prayer, which is our only congregational prayer (all others are recited by individuals).

We also have three obligatory prayers--called the short, medium, and long--and Baha'is are to choose one of these to recite each day.

The medium and long prayers have specific motions associated with their recitation; the short has none.

If the medium one is chosen, it's to be recited three times during the day. The short and long ones, once in a day (short between noon and sunset; long at any time).

Since it's so short, I'll include the Short Obligatory Prayer here as an example:

"I bear witness, O my God, that Thou hast created me to know Thee and to worship Thee.
"I testify at this moment to my powerlessness and to Thy might; to my poverty and Thy wealth.
"There is none other God but Thee, the Help in peril, the Self-subsisting."

Best! :)

How ever I feel like doing that day, if I feel like doing it. Random and different.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
There is no formal method of prayer that I engage in personally, but I tend to bow in reverence on occasions. -NM-
