Why is Judaism listed here as an Eastern religion?

Didn't Judaism and Christianity start in the same country? I guess calling Judaism "eastern" makes me think the guys who set up the forum think of this religion, with 6 million adherents in the US, as somehow exotic or foreign.

Any comments?

I dunno...it makes perfect sense to me. Judaism is in this forum for the same reason Islam and Kabbalah are located here: They all originated in the East and not the West. 8)

Not sure if this is a debate forum or not, but if you study up on the history of Christianity, it is easy to see why it's not considered an "eastern" religion, whereas the ones that are listed on this forum, are.

Um, let's see. Christianity was big in Greece, Turkey, Russia. Yup. Real Western.

On the other hand, I and several million of my coreligionists live in the U.S. Yup. Real Eastern. Well, I AM east of the Mississippi.

Nope. Still doesn't cut it for me. Makes me feel like some chador wearing foreigner.

Good question. I think Rex and the mods have tried to organize the forum as best we could, trying to make it easy to navigate. If you have any suggestions, we are always welcome to hearing them. Please visit the Site Feedback forum and tell us how you think we can improve!

Honestly, why does it even matter? You can talk about Judaism no matter what forum heading it is under. So why all the commotion?
Do you think we're trying to slight Judaism or something by placing it here? It's just here for organizational purposes, not to try to insult its followers.

If, as you suggest, we tried to classify religions based on where they are PRACTICED... well, we'd have a problem. Today Judaisim is practiced in the "East" and the "West"... as is Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, and many other religions. It would therefore be pointless to try to put them under a present day location heading, because instead of "Western, Eastern, and Alternate" headings we could only have one heading titled "Eastern and Western Religions". And we can't list them according to populations, because then we would have Islam, Christianity, and Judaism in one folder with ALL their topics (impossible to navigate) and the rest of the religions in one or two other folders (which makes it look like we're giving preference to the main world religions rather than treating everyone equally.) Finally, we can't list them ALL individually under the main page without headings, because then the main page would be too long and difficult to navigate.

So, that leaves us what?

Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are usually grouped together under "Abrahamic Religions", because they all believe they were descended from Abraham. We should probably have an "Abrahamic Religions" Forum

I don't agree. I think such a heading would cause too much clutter. The listing would be Abrahamic Religions. You open that and find 3 folders within it--Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Each of those folders opens to present a variety of other options--in the case of the Christianity forum, more folders, each of which can potentially have discussions of interest. Navigation is a nightmare. I have an idea that would be easier, but I'll bring it up in the Mod forum.

First, There is no such thing as the religion of JUDAISM. To be a JEW is a nationality, not a religion. A hebrew Isrealite(the naitonality of a jew) is of a bloodline; YOU CANNOT CONVERT. romans 9:7-8. No where in the history of the bible was someone a gentile and "converted to a JEW". If anyone cares to differ, then show me historical facts and scriptures. The JEWS do however have our own customs and laws to follow.

why do so many religious people with a genuine faith use the bible as some sort of a legal work of reference in order to proof that they are right and the other is not?
do not those people realize that you are not dealing with God but with your own egos?
