“The kingdom of God may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds through his wheat and then made off.” (Matthew 13:24)

READINGS:
1. Wisdom 12:13, 16-19
2. Romans 8:26-27
3. Matthew 13:24-25

REFLECTION: In the parable of the weeds and wheat, Jesus wants us to know that God’s Kingdom of peace and justice and truth will not come about easily. There will be difficulties in its growth. There will be setbacks and discouragements, but one day truth and peace and justice will reign.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you invite us to be part of your Kingdom on earth. You show us the style of life we must live to be part of your Kingdom. Help us to grow in faith, in trust, in kindness and in generosity so that more of your life might live upon this earth in us and through us. Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
Reflect on your life today. What can you do to reduce the busyness and allow time for reading, reflection, and prayer?

Tuesday:
Place on your table today some wheat mixed with some weeds. Begin a discussion with the family, naming the wheat and the weed activities in your lives.

Wednesday:
Pray the Mysteries of Light of the Rosary today. Pray for the families of those involved in wars.

Thursday:
We all have “weeds” in our lives. Pray today for patience to deal with your own “weeds” and those of others.

Friday:
Reflect on your past or future vacation. Resolve to make your vacations a time of positive growth, no “weeds.”

Saturday:
In the garden Mary is a beautiful glower. Reflect today on how you can imitate Mary. Perhaps you could plant a Mary garden.

PRAYER: Father, help us to appreciate the good things in ourselves and in our family. Amen.
