Test yourself for Free Will.

Test yourself for Free Will.

The debate as to our free will is more widespread than most realize. It is also stalled without a definitive answer, because no one has come out with a definitive test.

From my point of view free will cannot be given, it is something that must be taken.

If someone has free will then they are in a position to give it up.
If a someone does not have free will, they cannot.

To prove that you have free will, all you would need do is give it up to someone else’s will for no other reason other than you chose to.

If you agree with the reasoning and think the process here sound, then I invite you to give up your free will to mine, by simply replying to this thread with a brief response.

You will begin your response with the letter Y, if you recognize that you have free will.

Your appropriate response will prove that you have a free will.

Is this a definitive test for free will?

A real test of free will, is to kill yourself, and then see if you can bring yourself back to life.

Y.

No, it's not a fair test IMO, although it is a noteworthy effort. Hats off.

However, I think that determining free will, while it is a matter that differs by degree from individual to individual, and from situation to situation, is the most important thing we can seek to understand if we wish to improve our concepts of justice.

Y. The power of suggestion and a simple practice in control! Very good example of how to manipulate!

I started with a y. Do I get a cookie?

Maybe you are only as free as you think you are? This is purely mental masturbation but imagine a madman in a small jail cell who thinks he's a king, he decrees that everything that happens to him is what he wants--he stays in the cell because he orders it, when the jailer comes and gives him food, etc. If he wholeheartedly believes he is free then is he?

Don't be so hasty in answering, we are always quick to think of our point of view--especially the socially constructed ones--as the ultimate objective universal ones when it is clearly not so.

I suppose it all depends on what you consider your will to be free from. My will might be free from your control, at least to a certain extent. I'm not free from my genes or environment. I'm not free to be anything or anyone but me. I'm certainly not free to be you. No matter how much I'd like to subject my will to yours, it would be impossible to do that completely. Just look how difficult it is for even the most devout followers to completely subject their will to their God. We're biological machines, no more free than this computer I'm typing on.

Greatest I am knew people would respond, even if it was only to state they are not going to respond.

Not really. You will note the lack of followers.
Knowing a bit of the general mental state of men, I might habe been better off to do a reverse psychology thing instead.

No. Your thanks is recognizing that you have free will.

The computer is subject to you.

Who are you subject to?
Other than the usual laws of nature that is.

If you reply, who is replying?

Depends Upon My Mood..
Well Im free so I will say Y .Just because I want to not because I have to.

Even though I did feel "invisible" pressure to "join the club" But thats only because I didnt want to be left out of history.

Plus its kind of a fun game. Why not play it if you enjoy it?

We love using our free will to wear our jeans tight and strut around like freewillers...
