King James Onlyists claim that the Auth. KJV is the perfectly translated word of God preserved through the ages...

Leviticus 1:11:4-6
11:4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
11:5 And the coney, because he cheweth the cud , but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
11:6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud , but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you

personally I find bunnies yummy... Rabbit Lasagna...mmmm....:D

Thank you for the answer, Jescout (and others). I suppose the reason I asked that question was to ask another. Can someone tell me what part of the Torah rabbits are banned in? Thank you.
Lev. 11:6 - And the hare, because she cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, she is unclean unto you

Deut,

you bait me needlessly. The assumption of a literalist view predisposes a belief that the scriptures can be perfectly translated. Literalism is impossible without a "perfect translation". Herein lies the real problem with this dogma.

The literalist view is embraced by many theists out of a misplaced loyalty, and by many atheists in an attempt to discredit the scriptures.

why would it matter if an animal chewed cud and has divided hooves? How does that make it clean or unclean? That's pretty funny to me.

...to think about even everyday things, such as what you eat, you always have your relationship w/ HaShem in mind.

okay, but that doesn't answer my question, i was just wondering why it would matter how the animal ate and what kind of feet it had.

These Laws were designed to get Israel through 80 years of wandering and to ultimately produce a saviour. We cannot fathom all of the reasons for God to do this in our life time, but he promised that if the Isrealites were to follow them they would have "none of these deseases".

Hares are different than rabbits. Can you eat rabbits or not both?

Either way, that's a scientific falsity. Hares don't chew their cud.

if an animal chews it's own cud and has a split hoof (similar to cattle or a deer) then it is considered kosher to eat.

some would say that many of the animals which are not permitted to be eaten are either scavanger or carnivorious animals, or are bottom feeders (such as pigs, which eat slop)
honestly the best answer i can give is because it is a decree given by HaShem. It is a decree which is a part of what sanctifies the Jewish people to Him.
i suppose it's no more "funny" than wearing tzitzit or teffilin, which are also mitzvot given by HaShem

Rabbits do not chew 'cud'... instead they poop a partally digested mass of food and eat it so they can redigest it and make rasins. :D

I can't see the Bible as being 100%; even if it is, we argue about the meanings of various parts of it here on the forum - and that is AFTER it has been translated! Kinda makes you think!

My sister has a good theory. That back when the Torah was wrote, there was little understanding of bacteria, and proper cooking methods. The Rabbis noticed people getting sick eating the meat of certain animals, and since they didn't know how to get people to stop eating that particular animal, told the people that god said not to eat them.

I have no holy text. Simply because, if it is a text, it means man hand wrote it. And as many others said, man lies.

Of course the bible is 100% fact. What, you don't believe me? It even says that it is 100% fact itself. I mean, if that isn't validation then what is. Now I know that sounds like circular logic, but everybody loves circles! After all, they're round.

No religious book is based on 100% fact. The Bible is no exception.
