Speaking of virgins ...

I'm confused. Regarding the virgins that the suicide bombers are supposed to get in 'heaven', is it 75 virgins EACH, or TOTAL? I mean, that's a very serious question that I would want to know the answer to if I were a jihadist. It has serious implications for the motivation of any jihadists, I imagine.

On the flip side, this could be a major ad campaign that stops suicide bombers once and for all. Can you imagine the ads being dropped from the planes and plastered everywhere that reads "STOP! IT'S 75 VIRGINS TOTAL!"

Apparently there are four different Jihads,Jihad against oneself,Jihad of the tongue,Jihad of the Hand and Jihad of the Sword,of course depends on whether you are Sunni or Shia a differs between sects.
One Hadith concerning rewards

The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: "The smallest reward for the people of Paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]" (Sunan At-Tirmidhi, 4:21:2687)

This Hadith is one of my favourites because finding a corner in a Pearl just isn't going to happen so after running around in circles trying to find a corner you would be so knackered that the thought of 72 virgins would give you a Heart attack :D

Sahih Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 402
Narrated Abdullah bin Qais:
Allah's Apostle said, "In Paradise there is a pavilion made of a single hollow pearl sixty miles wide, in each corner of which there are wives who will not see those in the other corners; and the believers will visit and enjoy them. And there are two gardens, the utensils and contents of which are made of silver; and two other gardens, the utensils and contents of which are made of so-and-so (i.e. gold) and nothing will prevent the people staying in the Garden of Eden from seeing their Lord except the curtain of Majesty over His Face

The quality of the virgins also matters .... I mean, can you imagine being stuck in heaven with 72/75 Susan Boyles?

Maybe there's like another 72 Planets on the other end of the Galaxy where God houses all the souls for the Virgins?

NASA needs to get their **** together and find these planets right away. Screw water on Mars ... I want planet full of virgins. :beach:

my husband once asked me what happens when you're through with the virgins. are they no longer virgins and you have to (or can) keep having sex with them anyway, or do you get new virgins? i answered that the bit about 72 virgins is not in the Quran and refused to answer, but later privately theorized that the virgins kind of magically turn into virgins again when you are through with them. it is heaven, after all. supposedly. he also asked me if the female believers (Muslimas) also get virgins, and how many, and isn't that adultery which is punishable by death in Islam?

I've often wondered what it is with men and their obsession with virgins. From what I hear it ain't pretty especially when there's lot's of bleeding involved..

Hey guys, Im not sure about this, but I think it was a mistranslation.

I believe it first occured when the first crusade was held, and the Europeans mistranslated it from "72 bushels of grapes" to "72 virgins".

I may be wrong, I demand we get a professional in here.

Hopefully, the auto-replenishing virgins do get better, technically. I mean, it would suck to have to teach ... someone ... from square 1 over and over and over and over ...;)

It's heaven. There's no blood there. It's all the fun and none of the hassle.

actually, virgins in heaven can be infered through the Quran itself, in Surah 55, ayat (verses) 46-56, and these passage are clearly not talking about grapes.

And don't shoot me for inferring this, but I am no scholar of scripture. But is it not possible that the Quran has drifted? I don't know what sort of modifications said book might have went under over the years, but a good bit of time has passed between the first contact of the Muslims and the Christians.

Although your explanation is much more plausible.

Morse ~this is possible, though no Muslim will agree with this. the Muslim arguments is that the Quran has not been changed or corrupted in content one iota in the centuries cince it was revealed to Mohammad. in addition, i'd say the context of those passages supports the reading that virgins (young women who have never had sex) are being talked about here, especially because of the verb used, and the references to their enclousure, and to men and jinn.

Im siding with you on this one. I have never read the Quran, because as I said, I am no student of scripture. And thus I had no inkling of the strength of evidence that the passages were speaking of virgins and not those delectable little fruits.

Morse ~ it's a very interesting read, and i've read it a couple of times as a believer, and learned a little Arabic to do so. there are many ways to interpret this verse (including that these "virgins" will be the spouses one knew on earth but young, beautiful, and virginal again in heaven), but we have a Quranic verse (at least one) talking about enjoying one's self with virgins in heaven, who are there apparently for the sole or primary purpose of sexual enjoyment.

I agree that it may be an interesting read, but I do think it might be a little more prudent of me to read the Bible first. Seeing as I used to be Christian, and I come into contact with Christians most often. But when I get around to fully reading the Bible, I'll be sure to have a Quran to go with it.
