I may rephrase my statement. Perfection can lead to arrogance, thus ruining theirNetDoc said:Perfection would be the absense of arrogance.
It sure does. It also leads to a sore butt as they fall flat on it.NetDoc said:Renaldo,
the pursuit of perfection often leads to arrogance.
I would definitely disagree. I would say we invented the concept of god to try to understand, or better teach our culturally defined standards of "good and evil."Uncertaindrummer said:Anyone who asks "How could God let all this evil exist in the world" immediately concedes the argument. Without a God, there IS NO good or evil.
Deutser? Sorry, don't get the reference...NetDoc said:Try that on the Deutster, UD! I think he would take exception to that! :E
The point is, there does not need to be some "god" to judge actions. We have society and culture to do that. And they do, and have done that since the beginning of societal structure. Since there is no god, society and our own personal judgements allow us to see the negative implications of physical violence. Who are you to say it is neutral??Uncertaindrummer said:There are no good and evil actions if there is not someone to judge them who clearly has greater authority than you. If there is not a God, the action of one person punching someone else for no reason is just some chemical reactions occuring which move the arm in a certain manner, which impacts another being, which in turn changes the physical structure of his face. It is neutral. Who are you to say that is evil?
And yet human sin and satan were god's creations, thus evil is still god's creation. Unless you accept that god is not omnipotent, or omniscient. But I'm sure you don't want to limit your god, that wouldn't make him much of a god would it?blueman said:God created man and woman and gave they free will to choose. The imperfection of this world is more attributable to sin and disobedience and the fact that there is an adversary to God (Satan) that also has influence in this world and the people who inhabit it as well. 1 Peter 5:8,9 reinforces this fact.
but who created the tree?Victor said:Perhaps what you see as good is not what God see's as good. The point is to cause the person to go thru a metamorphasis. Whether God allows things to happen may be just part of the design or maybe not. Either way metamorphasis continues. Nasty things happening to people only makes it more difficult for people, but the result is in the hands of the individual.
but this still doesn't answer why there is bad in the world.... "The point is to cause the person to go thru a metamorphasis" does this mean that God is bound by some law of causality? but if he is bound by a law then he didn't create it.... which means he is no longer omnipotent.
Actually they had a choice from the very beggining. Eat from tree or don't eat from tree. Started off simple.
