That certainly does seem very draconian. Why not just go for good old fashioned lie detector tests :cover:

I also think that it might be a flawed way to go about things anyway. If you knew that if you were to go a bit wobbly, you could be considered a security threat, I think that would be enough to make people nervous enough to exhibit signs of being shifty.

Bleh. A bad indictment of how paranoid things have gotten, methinks.

With me, I've had knee problems my whole life, so it is not likely that I can hold still long enough. And then if someone has Tourettes, or just some injury that leaves it difficult to pass such a test, it might just make the airline industry go bankrupt once and for all.

I would not pass such a test. My balance is bad, if I close my eyes I fall backwards. I've failed a sobriety test twice because of my lack of balance

Don't you think they would have taken people with poor balance into account when running the studies? It's not like they only recruited a pool of gymnasts...

A screener would look for temperature changes — a possible stress response — as a person is asked questions.

Who doesn't get stressed at the airport, especially the security part. Now they add this, it isn't going to ease anyones mind at security gates.

“We’re going to look for the elevation, but we’re also going to look for the absence of signals, which is just as indicative of being something that has to be resolved,” Burns said.

So are they saying it is impossible to pass the test? Being too nervous means you get interogated, not being nervous means you get interogated, I'm wondering what kind of superhuman ex-cia/kgb security guards they are going to hire to evaluate these tests, and more importantly how much of a ridiculous salary they would need to pay someone who is qualified and how much that will affect the already high cost of airline tickets.

Right because a lot of people have anxiety when flying so they take tranquilizers. And what about children?Do they have a special Seseme Street one for them?

I think its over the top.Not to mention are they planning on running everyone this?..Think of the delays?..Besides they already practically strip search you before you can go through to where the gates are.

Considering you have to state your DOB and gender to check in now, it wouldn't surprise if they did recruit some gymnasts for those tests.

Ridiculous salary? From the TSA? You mean the same folks that get paid close to minimum wage to require that folks with permanent piercings remove them?

Call me a cynical paranoid but I have no doubt that this is just a ploy to add more people to the 'do not fly' list, slowly but steadily restricting the rights of citizens to legally travel. One more step toward the totalitarian police state envisioned by the right.

The first thing I thought of when I heard this ridiculous idea was that apparently they've concluded that their present security measures are a failure. Why else would they consider this? If they are sure now that they have thoroughly searched everyone, then who needs this? Even if you are a bit of a wacko, they supposedly have disarmed you at the security check, right? This just tells me that they have no confidence in the TSA's current procedures.
