During my 6th perios at school i overheard someone talking about relegion. He said, "Im so glad Im one with Jesus and all those dirty Aetheist are going to hell." How could i not but in :). I said how are you one with god?? He responded with i have accepted christ into my heart and i know he is real. I said have you seen him? This is were he started to look away. I let it slide. Then i asked So as you put it "Dirty" Aetheist are going to hell, whys that?? He said If you dont beleive in a holy one or one savoir you will got to hell. All i could say was Prove It To Me.......

Now im really upset about this. I really want to know why you beleive in something that could have been made up...please respond???

My advice is don't sweat it, you'll meet plenty of people like that.My wife's co-worker was under the impression that atheists worshiped satan, and she is in her 50s!
How can you worship something that you don't even beleive exsists? Just don't stoop to their level if you can help it ,though sometimes it's hard not to.

magurk,

As every one else has said - don't fret about it - I think the other guy has a problem; apart from being intollerant....

Many christians are like that Magurk, there's really not much else we can do about it other than ignore them. It annoys me too when a religious person gets to be nothing more than a "my way or the highway" type. The best thing to do is just ignore the ignorant ;)

Nor have I, though I have met some who are more than a little condescending.

Here in England I think theyre much rarer.. I occasionally see one standing in the street telling everyone theyre going to hell.. always being ignored.. but most of the Christians I have met have been quite normal people.

I think it's the difference between the more fundamental theists and the more liberal theists. As atheists we see more of they fundy types because they are the ones who actively seek to change people and voice their opinions more and louder.

Perhaps mention how loving and caring a christian they are that they wish eternal torture and damnation to you for simply not believing.

Good answer, and consider this a Frubal IOU.:D

Your classmate's as well as most Christians' beliefs are a personal matter of faith, and there's no way anyone would be able to prove what he believes to you in a tangible way. I think it's unfortunate that these type of people are out there and that they make so much noise, because I really believe they are a vocal minority of Christians not a majority. If they read all the New Testament and understood Jesus' teachings, they would '...love one another as I have loved you...' and not resort to name calling like you experienced.

As for your question '...I really want to know why you beleive in something that could have been made up?', if 'it' was made it, there sure are a lot of people 'in' on the 'gag'. I went through a time in my life when I didn't care about God, Jesus, or going to church. I felt a 'pull' to return to church, and when I studied the Bible and the history of the Christian Church, I came to the conclusion that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who God sent to teach us how we should live our lives.

I can't prove it to you or anyone else, but I can point to the impact it's had on my life and the lives of millions of others. It's not mine, nor your classmate's, nor anyone else's duty to tell you what to believe, but I hope if any other people who talk to you about religion do so in a more postive and constructive manner.

I'm not sure where you guys 'dig up' your Christians from; I have never met one who has told me I would go to hell...

I'd just like to say, seeing as the argument "there sure are a lot of people that believe, so it must be true" is used so often, that just because a lot of people believe it doesn't give it ANY more credability, especially considering the overwelming ignorance of humanity, in general.

And the flip side of this argument is that just because people choose not to believe something doesn't mean that is isn't true. The key is not to stoop to the level of Magurk's classmate by belittling people who don't share your beliefs or lack thereof.

Uncalled for. He was simply pointing out that such an argument was ineffective.. not trying to prove its opposite.
