what i want to know is, before the wizard of oz was there such thing as a good witch.
I'm assuming (hoping rather) that this was a joke...

If, however, this was not a joke, then I shall answer. Of COURSE there was such thing as a "good" Witch before Wizard of Oz, why would you think otherwise?

I have never heard the red hair thing. Ive heard black hair, but never red.
Some of the things Ive read are:
Anyone who wears a fish symbol is a witch.
Wow...does that include the people who wear that Christian fishy symbol, or is it a witch specific fish symbol?
All Pagan marrages end in divorce.
That's because our family values are almost as bad as the gays and lesbians.
Pagans eat the meat of babies and jokingly call it jesus jerky.
Finally, there's a name for it! And it's so much easier to say than,'Pass that snack food we eat when we're having a beer, honey.'
All Pagans are god haters and teach anti-family values.
Hence the really bad marriage stats.
All Pagans have pets that are posessed by demons.
Well, I don't think my cat is posessed, but he is a pain in the butt sometimes...does that count?

Greetings!

Misconceptions are ridiculous aren't they? Here are some misconceptions of Rastafari:

  1. Hatred for the white race.
  2. The complete superiority of the black race.
  3. Revenge on whites for their wickedness.
  4. The negation, persecution, and humiliation of the government and legal bodies of Jamaica.
  5. Preparation to go back to Africa, and
  6. Acknowledging Emperor Haile Selassie as the Supreme Being and only ruler of black people.
Jah Bless.

I wear the Triquetra . Does that mean that I'm Christian , Nordic , a Witch , or that I just like the symbolism ? ;)

I know nothing of your religion Jahlion , but would like to hear more . Is there a forum on it ? Or somewhere I could learn a little about it ?

I found it on a Wiccan website. What I want to know is what's up with the "All Witches have red hair" one. Where the hell did that come from? Who thought of that and why? I think it's so odd.
That was a sure sign in the middle ages that the suspect was a witch.
An lot of poor redheads got burnt on the strength of it.

For those who didn't get it, all my little quips in there were sarcasm... Seriously though, how funny is this?
About as funny as some of the "facts" I've read about my religion. Face it, some people just don't have anything better to do with their time than to misrepresent other people's beliefs. I believe that if we have to undercut someone else's position in order to strengthen our own, we don't have a position to start with. I have made it a practice to always go to a Catholic for information on Catholicism, a Muslim for information on Islam, and a Wiccan for information on Wicca. If you go to someone's enemies for information, what can you expect to get?

Thanks for the information JAHLion. I learned something today. I didn't actually have any of these misconceptions myself, but it's good to know that if I ever run across them, I'll know how much stock to put in them.

Katzpur,

Glad I could help. :) Oh, and I love that pic of that kitten. I love animals. :D

Kreeden,

I'll get you some links soon. But a real quick input, Rastafari to many many Rastas is more a way of life than a religion, good to know when dealing wit Rastas. :)

It is truly truly amazing that any sane person could look at this list and actually believe it, doesn’t give me much faith in human intelligence

Kreeden,

That's a pretty good link, for a basic coverage of Rastafari. And again, if ya have any questions feel free to aks. :)

Concerning reggae, yes, it does have religious overtures. Reggae music was mostly inspired by the Nyabinghi Rastas. Bob Marley and the Wailers have lots of references to Jah, Selassie I, and Marcus Garvey. Burning Spear, even more so. And Capleton is a Bobo Ashanti, also known as Bobo Dread. Bobo Ashanti is an order of Rastafari, just as Nyabinghi is. Capleton has many many references to Jah, Selassie I, Marcus Garvey, and Prince Emmanuel I.

Jah Bless. :)

Well , this is a Wiccan thread JAHLion , and I don't want to hi-jack it , but I am wondering about the return to Africa . I'm not sure how to word a question about it though . Being of European desent , most likely Scotish { my family has been in N.A. for over 300 years and we have lost track of our family tree , but my last name is that of a Scotish sept } , I really don't feel like I have a home in Europe . Now I realize that the Jewish people returned " home " not all that long ago ... and are still fighting for it .

I guess that my question is do you really feel that your culture is all that close to any Afican culture today ? I don't know what country you are in now , but assume that it is North American .

Hmm ? Perhaps this should be changed to a political discussion or something ? :) Anyway , I did realize that reggae had to do with a protest over social class , I should have listen closer and realized it had more meaning that that . And I have always knew that there was some meaning behind dreadlocks , but had no idea what that might be . It is cool finding that out . And I do like the Rastafari ideas on being indiviluals . John Lennon don't like " isms " neither . And I don't like labels .

I have to say that I am thankful of meeting you JAHLion . It has opened my eyes to a sysytem of beliefs that I never knew existed . :)

Ok , I see that you are from Texas . And I also see that there is a new member by the name of JahRastafari . Cool . I look forward to reading views from both of you .

Give thanks Kreeden! :)

Yes, I am of a closer European decent as well, meaning am I white. But (I'm not sure where) some studies have shown that ALL human life came from Afrika, more specificly Ethiopia. Many Rastas wish to return home to Afrika, and Ethiopia. And for us, Non-Afrikan Rastas, repartiation is not at the top of the list, but is definitely not banned from us.

And yes, reggae is a blessed music. Full of great words, rythm, and beats. But not all reggae is like this, as I'm sure you probably know, many "dancehall" reggae songs do not have this positive message, such as Shaggy or Beenie Man.

Dreadlocks, they have a spiritual meaning as well. Rastas believe in staying all natural, known as I-tal Livity to Rastas. So, many Rastas wear dreadlocks because locks are the natural state of human hair, without being combed or any nasty chemicals in it.

JahRastafari is I friend, his I's have barely been opened to Rastafari, as I I's have as well. I've known Rasta only 7 months and have learned so much. I give thanks to all who have helped I throughout I journey.:)

Jah Bless.
