Underage Drinking

When did you first drink alcohol? (Really drink, not a sip of dad's beer)

i started drinking when i was about 19, found i couldn't handle and didn't enjoy alcohol, and don't drink anymore.

i don't see a problem with drinking at any age, so long as it's moderated and supervised.

my campus is supposedly "alcohol free", yet every month or so someone is carried off to the hospital with accute alcohol poisoning. often drugs are involved to the extent that the il person has drunk themselves nearly to death and their body's distress wasn't registering with them.

as someone who can't handle and doesn't like the way she feels when drinking, my feelings about alcohol are kind of biased and negative. but i do believe it's perfectly possible to instill in a person from a young age that alcohol is alright, so long as it's drunk in moderation and enjoyed with others. and that alcohol, while fun, should not be used to numb one's feelings or to "escape"- if you have problems on your shoulder, better stay sober.

I got smash drunk for the first time when I was 16. I drank here and there before.
It was fun that night, I made out with 12 gorgeous girls(before the beer goggle effect), and parties my arse off!

*sigh* not that this was the lifestyle for me to live.. but I dont regret it.. I remenis apon times like that. Great fun, nobody got hurt, and my friends grew closer because of it.

I started drinking around 15...I probably drank every weekend through high school, but didn't get completely wasted. After I went away to college [and particularly after I turned 21] I had a few problems with alcohol, but I don't think the age that I started drinking had anything to do with it. Now I'm back to limiting it to the weekends, except for special occasions like my friends birthday last night. Which I'm sorely paying for today.

heh...Gracie's post reminds me of the first weekend I was at college--classes had not even started yet. Some idiot across the hall got himself so drunk he was throwing up blood, and I woke up at 2 AM to hear medics' walkie-talkies in the hallway.

I was drunk the first time when i was 3(I am told..). Apperantly i got ahold of my dads bottle while he wasn't looking, so i took a *little sip*. I've been drinking steadly since i was 12, but back then i didn't get drunk, it was mearly a little spritzer a week. I started getting 'drunk' at partys from the time i was 14, where i really hit the bottle hard. I finally realized that drinking 10 beers within a hour is a bad idea, and it damaged me. It really hit me when a friend got alko-poisening, and could not drink or any other physical activity. After that i cut back, drinking 1-2 beers max a party.
But the story peeks as i went from getting drunk to getting high.. But that's for another time, another thread. Anyway, why is this important to you Druidus?

I started at 15, but mostly from 15 to 18 I smoked grass. But every now and then I like to get wasted with my buddies, its fun!

Maybe 13 for me, I don't remember.

I don't like the taste of beer, or wine too much, but I love putting liquor in Sprite and Coke! TASTY!

Love alcohol, if I am drinking socially. Hanging out with friends or my wife in a club or somewhere, and it is acceptable. Drinking to overcome depression, as I done when I was younger and didn't know how to deal with upset and fitting into life, is not cool. Right now, I have coke with a tad-bit o' rum for the taste. Alcoholic? No. Just felt like doing it. Underage drinking is unfair to everyone. Too many accidents have happened in our area here in Texas lately. However, teens and underage are going to drink, smoke weed, experiment with drugs, have sex and play around...cause, it is just a part of growing up and rebelling. That is just how it is. I was raised in a Very strict home growing up. I am now 31, and wished I would have done some of those things when I was younger. I think doing Some of those things helps one to aspire and be-at-ones-self in Today's life and scene of life. YET< a price is paid for every stupid thing you do....so I don't know....

I've never had a drink. And after seeing idiot roommates and their idiot drinking habits, I've been turned off from the idea of drinking for a long time.

This is really strange, because the thread has 'broken' a memory.

I don't remember this, but I have been told it. When I was little (?)I used to go, with my parents to the 'club' for colonials; there were square tables, with cloths over them. Apparently I used to crawl under the table. From there, my hand would inch up to the table, and I'd finish off everyone's left overs! I was a Bon Viveur from a very early age!:biglaugh:

When I was young we always had wine on the table on sundays the under tens had 50/50 wine and water.I have never really cared to drink more than a glass or two and that not often. So I dont think early drinking is a problem if introduced in a sensible way
