I knew I was a UU long before I ever decided to call myself one. I finally joined the CLF about five months ago after having known about it and UU'ism for a few years. I was hesitant not only because of bad experiences with religion and religious people in general, but because I didn't know if it would provide a true sense of community, but that seems to have been untrue, though personal contact is better.

However, I do visit a congregation when able to and have a couple of UU friends, including my cultural anthropology professor. Getting to know other UUs online and in person has been a very interesting experience, and even though I don't have as much personal contact, I truly feel a part of the community. I have never known of any other religious movement I fully identified with.

I felt much the same. After years of deep study, prayer, ritual, and meditation, I finally gave up on finding anything that fit perfectly, though I had a fondness for the UUs. The problem was that they didn't have a church at a convenient distance from my house. Once I moved into this neighborhood, I found one close by.

I don't have a congregation now. I have a family.
