Homosexuality Outlawed in Burundi

Done here.
In what way is it totalitarian? Oh wait, I forgot. Advocating that people should have self-control and modesty when they're in public IS totalitarian. Silly me, I should have known better than to have standards.
I agree; people should have self-control and modesty when they're in public. For instance, if they see somebody doing something they wouldn't do themselves -- hugging, kissing, holding hands, for instance -- and they don't like it, they should shut the **** up about it instead of arrogating to themselves to right to dictate their standards to their fellow citizens. The immodesty and lack of self-control of the self-righteous is appalling.

My apologies. I thought that my right to vote was a right to voice my opinion through affecting legislation. Excuse me for not realizing that my right to vote is actually only valid if it agrees with your opinion.

When is a wedding done in public?

From my perspective, a kiss is a sexual act (seeing as how the only difference between it and others acts of sex is the level of pleasure received--and that's only sometimes).

I think that couples should avoid going beyond a hug/holding hands in public view of other people. If they're at a private event (like a wedding) then that'd be fine. But there's no reason to allow people to flaunt their sexuality in public.
A kiss is not necessarily a sexual act. Even between lovers.
For instance, if my boyfriend/husband were to do something really wonderful for me, or say something especially sweet, my reaction might be to give him a kiss on the cheek or a quick kiss on the lips (although I tend to run on the modest side when it comes to PDA, so I don't do even this very often). It would be an act of gratitude and love, not sex.
That kind of thing is certainly not what you seem to be describing, like making out in public.
I would hate to have the freedom to express my love and gratitude for my significant other taken away like that.

I agree with you that people should show some modesty and propriety in public places. However, I think that it is neither modest nor proper to take away people's ability to show their affection simply because you don't like seeing it. :sarcastic

I don't believe in Freedom of Expression. In fact, I don't really believe in rights. Rights are not necessary in a legal system that is designed appropriately.

Just sayin'.

You know, I hear/see things like this a lot and it really makes me wonder why people say it. I mean, I don't care what they do behind closed doors either.

However:

The only way that I, or society, or any one else for that matter would find out about their being homosexual is if THEY take what goes on behind closed doors and air it out in public...And I think that should be illegal (not just for gay people, but for straight people as well). It appears that no one believes in modesty anymore.

I think my post was not well worded becauses that's not what I meant at all. I'm talking about people who equate homosexuality with sodomy and don't want to see it. If they don't want to see it, they don't need to watch. I compare this same attitude I've heard guys say when they ummm...are with their women.

Anyway, I think I get what you mean. People should get use to it, but if we're talking about sexual acts in front of people including children....I don't care if you're gay or straight but you shouldn't be doing that in front of a child or people who really don't want to see it. And yes I'm for public displays of affection just the same as straight couples who get more than their fair of showing it. And no, I'm no prude.

Does this make sense?

It makes perfect sense. I simply think that there's really no reason to have such displays (even if they aren't sexual) in a public place. It's not a matter of me not liking seeing it.

I simply feel that if people really did want it to be a private matter, than it could be. However, if it is private, then there's no way I should find out about it.

So you don't think showing any form of affection to people should be allowed in Public? I can't hug a friend or anything? Why exactly do you think this?

Heh, give yourself a break, you are too young to be so self indoctrinated.
I dont know about most people on the forum (although I have a gut feeling most will agree), that is a positive thing to live in a society where people kissing in public is not considered an abomination.
no kissing in public? what next, no female vocals? no condoms?

Yet, you can't make a conection between your last quote and your question "In what way is it totalitarian?" If not, I give up. :ignore:

The moment kissing in public is made illegal I renounce my US citizenship and head to Canada where they don`t seem to have completely lost their minds.

You can`t seriously be advocating such idiocy.

When is a wedding done in public?

Almost always.
There are 4-5 a week on the beach where I work.
The courthouse is a public place.
Most churches are public places.

From my perspective, a kiss is a sexual act

So now I suppose I should be arrested for molestation for giving my eight year old daughter a good night kiss.
OH ****!
I kissed her in Walmart today, right in the check out line, I`m such a perv.

We need a bigger face palm emoticon.

Not any. As I said earlier, hugs and hand holding (IE neutral acts) would be fine. As would kissing a family member.

When I said that kissing is a sexual act I meant along the lines of making out. I suppose I should have clarified that.

It'd probably be a bit tedious to forbid people from kissing so I'd probably be willing to allow that.

I see rights as unnecessary in a properly established legal system. Rights cause people be selfish. You give people rights and they start to be unable to see beyond their little paradigm at the big picture. All because they feel that they have rights.

The moment kissing in public is made illegal I renounce my US citizenship and head to Canada where they don`t seem to have completely lost their minds.
Some kissing is definitely inappropriate in public places.

Also....
So what would you do about other pseudo-sexual instances that happen in public?
Would people not be able to wink at each other in a flirtatious manner?
Would someone not be able to look at their lover in a suggestive way?
What about tango dancing? That can be very intimate and sensual.
?

If some people want to be insecure prudes then that's their prerogative, but other people shouldn't have their rights and freedom restricted just to placate their squeamishness. If something doesn't victimize or violate the rights of innocent people, then they simply need to get over it and mind their own business.

I'll speed dial Child Services.
My 2.5 year old son kisses my wife and I on each cheek then on the mouth. I have no idea where he picked that up from but I'll be sure to be careful when Knight's plans are implemented.

I'm coming with you.

I didn't say a thing about your right to vote, and you know it. I was talking about self-control and modesty. I wonder why it is that so many religions turn their practitioners into such shameless liars.

So then I misundersatood when you said, "they should shut the **** up about it instead of arrogating to themselves the right to dictate their standards to their fellow citizens".

If I vote for something that you disagree with (like voting that homosexual marriage not be legalized), then I would be (essentially) dictating my standards to my fellow citizens. I was simply noting that my right to vote is not "arrogated" but given to me by the Constitution.
