country music

Hi guys...well here's a thought: I've notice how out of all music genres out there, country is the one that seemingly still has morals left. All other genres, be it rap, pop, metal, contains so much hatred in its lyrics.. I am currently listening to Josh Gracin's (guy from American Idol2) country album and it's realllly good!! (if you'd like to listen to his music you could go to joshgracin.com) this album is basically letting everyone know that he loves living his life...no hatred or whatsoever.

What is your definition of hatred? I listen to music of the punk rock genre that has a lot of anger, but not hatred. I also listen to ska, which is mostly amoral. For instance, The Aquabats sing about pool parties, pizza, and aliens, which is not hateful in any way. Reel Big Fish sang about corporate sellouts, conformity, and vegetarianism, and sang about them in a way that, while admittedly sarcastic, was not hateful. Also, have you considered jazz in your opinion? Can acoustical jazz be moral, one way or the other? Can blues be hateful? What about contemporary classical? You did say "out of all music genres..."

Another thing I differ with is your assertion that country music has morals. Are there no country music songs that talk about or promote promiscuity, alcoholism, and even violence? Just some things to consider.

I'd say it has nothing to do with the genre at large, but with individual groups. One group can sing about sex, drugs, hate, and rape....another could sing about love, living life, and family.

I'm the lead female for an "rock" group, and yes, some of the lyrics are angry. I can't ever recall any of the lyrics any of us wrote being hateful.

Listen to what you choose, because choice is power. Even with music.

good idea....and anyway...what about Bad Religion...they have morals...in fact...XD it has to do with this forum XD...eh anyway I like punk music too...good stuff...

besides that pegan has a good point it's not what genre they are....it's what they sing about....how about for instance...Oi!...which is a subgenre of punk....the first oi! bands were mostly racist skinhead bands....now if you take an example of the Vanilla Muffins (a relitivly new oi! band) all they sing about is pretty much soccer...

and pegan....what's your band called?

I am not a big music person, but most of the country songs I have heard contain a positive message. Some of the songs even make me feel fuzzy inside.

"Save a horse, ride a cowboy"

Aha! I love that song!

Yes, country music does seem to come off as moral and happy, but perhaps that's only because it hides behind the eyes of a good 'down-home' boy with a wife who cooks good southern food and pops out beautiful babies. Don't get me wrong, I love country music, but just because they don't talk about their 'ho's don't mean they don't got 'em!

Old country is very moral though...I guess it's mostly the new stuff which has gotten edgier.

Also, rap and punk, etc., also oftentimes have good messages.
