Mock Trial

In government we are doing a mock trial and I am the judge! I am starting to get nervous because I am not too sure what all to do, but I am? This is a really awesome project, we have prosecuting attorneys and defense attorneys and a jury made of 8th graders, everything is real. The teachers are being really good about letting us get out of class because 1st hour and 6th hour have to work together interviewing people. 6th hour (my class) only has 10 people so we just had enough people to do the main parts. Does anyone have any advice on judging? I have to keep control which I can probably do but our two attorneys are both excellent. I am excited but nervous. :)

This sounds like fun. And WOW you have a big role.

You will have to keep us posted on how it is going. Do we know what the charges are yet?

That would be me, just start going crazy!!! :)
The charges are DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
I have a sheet with all the things that I have to say with the names and everything so I know what to do.

That's a pretty heavy topic for 8th graders.
Yea, but that was our only choice. That's what we get for being in a Jr/Sr. high school.
However 8th graders anymore......

Well I was a pretty good judge today, however, I think that thursday will be better, I'll be gone tomorrow. I just wasn't too sure on what I was supposed or not supposed to do.

I'd say the 2 hardest things about judging are understanding the law as it applies to your particular case and keeping your feelings about the people appearing in your court in check.

I participating in some mock trials back in school and learned more about our legal system in those trials than in years of reading books in Civics class. It's fascinating to experience it in action when you know you won't be put in jail when it's over.:D

I wouldnt be to worried about keeping order Susan, because I honestly have no case, anywayz you will do fine, you did excellent today and you will continue to do so. I know Cody will get a no-guilty from the jury, but he will do it with a fight, because I am not backing down I still have a few moves I havent tried yet. I just cant wait till its over...I need to work on my projects!!!! lol
