Music?

This has probably been covered before, but why do you think that we make music and enjoy it so much. Why do certain types of music make us feel certain ways. What defined the type of music that is "sad" or "upbeat" . .

Just struck me today that i have no idea why us humans are so eager to create music.

Because music it's built into our make-up. God put it inside of us, so we better choose the right kind.

My posts, from long ago:

Does anyone else's pets like music? My dog (part German Shepherd, part Rottweiler, part husky, part wolf), Shadow, loves classical music. But only certain composers. She likes Vivaldi, Mozart, and especially Beethoven, but not Wagner, or Chopin. She, like me, likes the fast, active pieces better, but still likes the slow ones, at times. I know this because depending on what I put on she howls. I put on Beethoven, instantly, she's up howling along with the music! Wagner, however, and she just stares angrily at me, and barks every now and then, until I change it. You guys have anything like that?

Also, what is the purpose of music appreciation, in humans, and non-humans? What benefit does it hold?
As some of you may know, I posted here questioning why music was pleasant to us; why we enjoyed it. I am asking that again, but this time, I have a theory. The reason we like music is because of how orderly our brains are. We like, order, and therefore, patterns. Since all music is a function of patterns, we like music. The other facet that is intertwined with pattern theory is mathematics. Our brains like to order things mathematically. We are built that way. Because of the fact that we can express the tune of any song with a mathematical equation, we can say that our brains will be able to unconciously note the order and pattern from within the song, expressing a pleasure in our brains, due to the release of epinephrine (and other chemicals). However, I still have no idea why different tunes can evoke different feelings. Anyone want to help me out? :help:
I'm still of the belief that mathematics play the largest role in a beings appreciation of music. However, something else, an intangible, is there. A dog, for instance, doesn't necessarily understand mathematics, but trust me, dogs can like music.

I just don't understand where music appreciation comes in through evolution. My theory is that it may have been used as a form of mate attraction, similar to that of the whales. This explains the release of endorphins and other chemicals for certain musics.

Benjamin, do you mind explaining what you mean by choosing "the right kind"?
