Tired of being called a sinner?

Tired of being called a sinner ?

It's just a word, why do those who don't believe put so much weight into it ?

If you told me a lie,I'd call you a liar ! you don't have to tell 2,3,4 lies to be a liar....just 1 lie.
That's hard enough for people to admit.
If you stole something from me, I'd call you a "thief" !
If you break the civil law, your a called a criminal by the justice system
If you drink alot of booze, you may think your just an occassional drinker ,but some may call you an alcoholic.
If you don't believe in Christ ,your an anti - Christ
Some are atheists,agnostics,evolutionists, humanists, etc.
Some are sinners,by what standard, God's word,

..titles are what are placed on you to describe who you are, just because you don't like the title that describes what you do or who you are, it does'nt negate the fact.
This is the age of "ism's" "ists' and we are labelled one thing or another.
It's part of the identity process,it's just that some like to identify too much.

Sin is transgression of God's law,if you don't like the title, you don't have to believe it.
To some, God is just a fairy tale,so don't accept the myth or anything that pertains to it.
I really don't approach people and call them a sinner.
That's a pretty strong approach ,it's like shinning a spotlight in someone's face when their sleeping as opposed to the dimmer switch.

I think many times people don't want to discuss or be associated with words that express mortality, pain, hopelessness or makes them feel uncomfortable or fearful, like death, hell, disease and sin.

Like adam and eve...who hid themselves in the garden and covered themselves up with fig leaves. To hide from what they had done, and fearful of what was to come. Eve blames satan and adam blamed eve. At some point we have to come to grips with our fears. Sometimes we are afraid of something that might never happen. Sometimes the very thing that we fear comes upon us.

Yes Roli, you're right, it is just a word. It's harder to take from family, not because I feel like a sinner, more like it's an insult coming from them. I usually don't pay much attention and let it roll off me, but somedays I just wish they would stop. I am glad to hear that you don't do that and understand it's not likely to do much good anyway.

Maybe I'm just having a bad day, but I am really getting tired of being labelled a sinner just because I don't believe in religions definition of God. Is it just me or is anyone else tired of the slogan, we are sinners and we must repent or be sent to hell for eternity. Why do people believe this stuff and why do they think it's alright to tell others this stuff too. Don't they see how hurtful and condescending this is? Sorry, but I'm really tired of the label my family and others give me and other's like me. Usually I'm pretty upbeat about it and let it slide off my back, but today it's getting to me a lot.

I'm a sinner.
And as one I have no right to cal someone else one.
If someone is calling you a sinner because you don't believe in 'God' they themselves are worse for trying the judge.
Judging others is not the sign of a 'Christan' but the sign of a hypocrite.
I'm personally sorry if what others say is bringing you down. If you are happy in the truth that you live by, don't let another take it away.

Thank you and welcome to RF. I don't let it get to me too often. I do find it frustrating though more often then not.

Guilt is the great cudgel used by religion to keep believers in line, and defining what "sin" is, is the mechanism for creating the guilt.

Yes and it appears as though everyone has a different definition. It is the proverbial moving of the goal posts. I decided I would stay out of that game.

Seeking More Truth
If I can be frank... "Christians" can be "Christians" worst enemy when it comes to the truth.
Same goes for Religion for that matter.

For me, the truth is in my heart and in the way I feel about 'God' and making someone feel guilty because you don't see things the way I do is an epic failure on their part. If knowing 'God' is all about a personal relationship, how personal would it be if someone else had exactly what you did? It's like the love for your kids or parents, each one is great and special, but one isn't better than the other. I believe we all have the choice to find our relationship, this is a life of choice, and God or no god, there will always be a consequence for those choices. And if there is no God in your world then I'd expect him to make some effort to show himself to you one way or another.

Don't feel bad about the way you believe, unless you 'know' that way is not right for you. Be happy with what you have, and live the life you have.

The law and what it imposes, guilt, regret etc always has a fear factor associated with it, yet it's a deterrent nevertheless, and I think a very healthy one.
It's what typically keeps us within the safe boundries of universal laws as well as civil laws and it's no different with spirutal and moral laws.

Call a cop or the justice system every name in the book for busting you and even claim their unfair and out to get you, but the guilt and fear that you should have listened to was your conscience warning you to stop.

Will you blame them or your conscience, no, you should be grateful they are sparing you from the consequences.

That is pretty much the way I see life. Each of us has a different idea of what it is and we all interact with it differently. I am happy and content with my understanding of life. I am enjoying it immensely and I believe that is important. If there is a god and he gave the world a gift of life, then enjoying it must be honoring in it's own right. The belief that this life is about suffering has never struck me as a way to honor the being that supposedly gave them life...:)

The Bible boldly proclaims that everyone knows God exists. You do too.

You presume too much. You can't see past your own dogmatic rhetoric. I simply telling you that a all knowing all seeing creator that is outside of space and time...makes no sense at all why it would create something and place a bunch of stipulation on it if it was futile to do so. If your god exist then what I do is by his design. If it is by his design then how can I be wrong?

You choose to reject the subject.

I've rejected nothing. I don't believe in gods. It's nothing personal.

but there are no atheists fighting in foxholes or or floating in high seas. One day you will be in those waters.

You presume too much.
Hey Dirty Penguin, are you ?...a dirty penguin, anyways, could you also be presuming too much in your postion.
Do you know for fact God does not exist.
Not that this is the only evidence, but
what is your explanation for the vast, yet detailed and complex life that exists, not to mention the natural cycles ie:hyrdological, seasons, food cycle.
What about our climate and air is that just random chance that these things exist as they do,creating perfect enviroment for life to exist.
What about the natural drive for man to be, safe, healthy, protected, provided for, loved, needed, accepted, affirmed, freedom, forgiven, to have purpose, hope, faith, peace, visions, dreams, goals, would'nt life be empty without and where do they come from, man's own inclination.
What about the natural drive for mankind to want to live and not die.
How do you explain all this order and desire within the human soul.
Random, chance, natural selection......I think that takes more faith and belief then it does for a Christian to have in God.

You can't see past your own dogmatic rhetoric.
There are alot of those "Dogma's" in society today, yours being one of them, but if it were only for dogma's, doctrines, philosophy, beliefs etc, then this conversation and the desire to know,is futile.

We are a people who always overlook the things in life that matter and really help us to understand our situation.
We can't see the forest for the trees and therefore get caught up in the here and now, schedules, agendas, duties, career and never ponder life's purpose, the "what if's"
We are in survival instinct, just getting by, taking so many things for granted without even a thought of the wonders of life or special things in life that make sense and.... matter.
We spend most of our time rationalising, philosophizing, generalisng, doubting, worrying, feeling, fearing and miss the purpose of life that is within us all.

I simply telling you that a all knowing all seeing creator that is outside of space and time...makes no sense
I agree, but there are alot of things that you can't see,yet believe and accept, without varifiable ,emperical evidence.
Why is it you accept these things, especially based on another's expereince or word.
You live by faith day in and day out, yet it's the very thing God requires first of man, before he reveals himself to them.
..but that there is the insulting ,demeaning, irrational obstacle for intellectual man.

why it would create something and place a bunch of stipulation on it if it was futile to do so.
Are you saying there are no stipulations in life, there everywhere around us,but you accept them as the "norm"

If your god exist then what I do is by his design. If it is by his design then how can I be wrong?
Is that a question that is seeking an answer, if so...
Your conscience will be make it clear.

Yes. I know for a fact all the gods don't exist, including yours.

what is your explanation for the vast, yet detailed and complex life that exists, not to mention the natural cycles ie:hyrdological, seasons, food cycle.
What about our climate and air is that just random chance that these things exist as they do,creating perfect enviroment for life to exist.

I'm cool with science for all of the above.

For the ones that aren't obvious (like the desire to live and not to die), psychoanalysis does a decent enough job for me.

Random, chance, natural selection......I think that takes more faith and belief then it does for a Christian to have in God.

Accepting the implications of empirical evidence doesn't require any faith at all. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, you don't need "faith" to call it a duck, unless you're an insufferable sophist.

I agree, but there are alot of things that you can't see,yet believe and accept, without varifiable ,emperical evidence.

No, there aren't any.

So what if the bible proclaims this or that. It has nothing to do with God man wrote it not God. Yes, the bible says it's the inspired word Of God but there's no proof of it. You do know that by what your God says your doing excatly what you should not being doing right? Your calling those of us who don't believe your way a liar. Furthermore lieing is a sin your telling us that we believe in your God. Um.... doesen't the bible saying something about liers not being with God in heaven?

My book assumes that god doesn't exist. Therefore god doesn't exist.

The bible assumes god exists. Therefore god exists.

Which one is right?
