Kilgore Trout

Misanthropic Humanist
Just saw "Push" - seemed like it could be fun. Turned out mildly entertaining, but way too long and the plot pretty much came apart.

It's about people with telekinesis, clairvoyance, etc., so you definitely need to be able to suspend disbelief.

Re-watched The Aristocrats the other night. At first, one of my roommates refused to watch it, then decided to give it a shot the next day. Now she can't stop quoting the movie.

Warning: Do not watch if easily offended. The verbal imagery is graphic beyond belief. However, once you get past that, it's both hilarious and intelligent, with some wonderful insights into what makes something funny, and the place for humor in our lives.

CORALINE
Theater/ Color/ 101 Mins./ PG/ 2009
A young girl (Fanning) walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother [Hatcher]) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family.

IN COLD BLOOD
DVD/ B&W/ 134 Mins./ R/ 1967
This chilling tale based on Truman Capote's nonfiction novel follows two drifters who murder an allegedly rich Kansas family and flee to Mexico. Filmed in the house where the real-life incident occurred, In Cold Blood paints a compassionate portrait of the Clutter family … and their killers (Robert Blake and Scott Wilson). Nominated for four Oscars, this disturbing movie was shot in black and white but implies that the meaning of justice is not.

War Of The Gargantuas
DVD/ Color/ 93 Mins./ NR/ 1966
When a furry green monster begins destroying the city, Dr. Paul Stewart (Russ Tamblyn) realizes it's a gargantua that escaped from his lab years ago. Hoping to save the day, he unleashes a second gargantua to take on the first. Tokyo teeters on the brink of disaster as the two monsters -- one fighting for mankind, the other against it -- duke it out in this Japanese monster classic. Kumi Mizuno and Kenji Sahara co-star.

I hadn't seen this movie in about 20 years. It was a unique entry into the Kaiju genre. Good story, good costumes, good action and detail models.
