Curse my lack of social ability

Phasmid

Mr Invisible
Yeah, that's the way I am..I'm more likely to go for a walk or leave altogether if there are a bunch of people I don't know. It makes me crazy, and I'm just no good at being social  Too shy, easily embarrassed, etc. etc.
Invite someone else over! Then sit down and have a beer with them.

Screw it, I'll ask some mates from uni over. They live outside the city, but it's worth a shot.

I'm at uni (my home is far away).

Ah, no good friends there yet? Well, that should be the next thing you work on, to make situations like this easier to cope with :D Join a club or something at your uni. Shared interests can help make the process a little smoother.

He said he'll call me in 30, I bribed with the fact there's enough alcohol here to take out a small village.

That's m' boy :p
Heh..that's how everyone at my uni always gets people to do stuff...especially useful if the person you're bribing is still below drinking age (21) :D
Need help moving? Alcohol.
Help with homework or writing an essay? Alcohol.
Want your mate to bring their hot friends to a gathering? Alcohol.
Want to use someone else's apartment for your party? Alcohol.
Very useful

lol and the living room is so full of smoke you can't actually see (my housemates a sound/lighting technician for nightclubs).

Muahaha...If I was at a party where no one could see, and we all knew each other, you bet there would be some mischief going down. Butt-grabs, run-by kisses, drinks being stolen. The crazier ones would probably grope people

Edit: What KIND of smoke, exactly?

The artificial type made from dry ice, which I'm assured doesn't cause a slow and painful death. Was sat in the dark, smokey room completely annoymouse, was just a shadow like everyone else, no one even noticed me, it was heaven.

Well, this girl poked me and I waved and she backed off as if to say, "Wait, that's not a wall!" and then did the same thing a minute later.

Oh man, I love playing with dry ice. I used to do it all the time. It's fun to use in drinks instead of regular ice, too! :D Makes your drink all bubbly and smoky. Just don't let it have contact with your bare skin for too long.

Haha You should go find that russian girl and smooch her :D

Yay, I made a group of people laugh several times, and it wasn't to my expense. Joy, I am the life of the party... in the kitchen.

Haha Good job! :D I usually like hanging out in the kitchen. It always seems more laid-back for some reason.
Let us know how it goes! :p

It went well in the end. Even surfed down the stairs on an ironing board. Now I'm nursing a hang over... but a good night overall. Thanks for putting up with me ya'll!

Well put it this way. After spending ages stood in a crowd saying nothing, my friend says, "Are you alright?" leading people to stare at me like something's wrong with me.

Glad to hear it all turned out well but this happens to me sometimes too. Sometimes when I'm at a social gathering, not knowing what to say to anybody and sitting by myself and bored to death...then someone I know will ask a question, the answer to which is totally obvious, "Hema, you're sitting by yourself?!!" They usually ask it aloud so that other people nearby will hear.

Woot! Glad to hear it went well! You know it's been a good night if there's surfing on ironing boards :p

Question: Do people in England (and I guess you specifically) acutally USE the word "y'all" in your everyday speech? I've seen people use it on RF, but I'm never sure if it's something people outside of my area actually use.... :D

Luckily there's plenty of alcohol to drown out the, "I can't".

If this will cheer you up, Phasmid, I am as useless as you in social situations, and I don't drink, so I don't have that consolation either.

The only hint that I might be able to give is to ask the person about themselves and their interests. This is what people really wish to discuss. Eighty percent of the time, they will not even bother to ask you about yourself.

Ack. I hate that. My response is usually to turn bright red and say something like "Yeah! I'm just listening...."

Wish I was there to help out, man. We could be awkward and unsocial together :p

I wonder what would happen if you got a group of awkward and unsocial people together...

Well, at first it would probably be....awkward :p

If I was a part of such a group, though...I would probably take heart in the fact that everyone else was feeling just as out-of-place as I was, and start forcing them to talk lol. Asking specific questions to people, trying to find common interests, or start an activity that everyone can participate in. Uno is one of my favorites :D
