There is that saying, "if it's not broken, don't fix it." Is the low age of consent having a bad effect in Canada? At first I thought it should be increased, but if it's already 14 and that's working, I don't see why it should be changed.

I voted to decrease it.

The saying "if it's broken, don't fix it" also prevents improvement upon systems that, while they work, are totally inefficient or unfair. One popular example of this would be universal sufferage since this argument was used against giving women the right to vote.

I dunno. Canada isn't known as a pedophile nest or something similar so perhaps it does? I'll try and look into it sometime today (if I remember) and get back to you.

I've never met anyone who lost their virginity at 14 and who didn't come to regret it, but then again, I haven't met a lot of people who lost their virginity at 14.

Canada does have pedophiles... you just dont hear about them as much as you hear about the ones from the states.

Yes I think it should be raised 14 in my opinion is to young.:bonk:

14 is too young from a logical standpoint in my opinion. Assume she gets pregnant. Can her 15 year old boyfriend support all three of them on minimum wage or is Mommy gonna do it? I think being older would be wiser, because both of them could act when hormones aren't running so high. At 14 most boys or girls would jump and get it at a good oppurtunity.

:) The age of consent isn't that cut and dry here in Canada . It starts at 14 , a little more is added at 16 , but it isn't untill you are 18 that you have full consent by law . { or is that 19 ? } ;) I'm not sure how it all works .

I believe that two people can marry at 16 , without the parents consent . But both have to be younger then 18 ... or something like that ? It's been a long time since I was a teen . :)

I think your right on the starts at 14 lil more added at 16 thing Kreeden.

However Im not sure on the marriage issue I think you have to be 18 not to have a parents consent but at 16 you do. I think it goes you can move out at 16 but u cannot marry till 18.. without consent.

I've met plenty, and plenty younger. Not many, as far as I know, regret it.

You could be correct there Ness . :) I'm not sure how it works , just that there are stages at different ages .

Figure out the Law ? Not much wonder then they read like this ...

" Even consensual activity with those under 14 but over 12 may not be an offence if the accused is under 16 and less than two years older than the complainant. The exception, of course, is anal intercourse ... "

Of course ??? lol I wonder if the colour of the person's shirt makes a difference ??? ;)
