I haven't been faced with too much prejudice because of my taoism, but I have due to my spirit works. I had a capuchin vocational director tell my parents not to allow me to come to the capuchin formation program because he didn't want me to scare away the other priest to be's. I had another capuchin priest, if you watch EWTN, then you've seen him... Father Angelus. He told me to see a psychiatrist, but only a catholic psychiatrist. I've also lost many girlfriends because of it. I am used to it now, and it does't bother me anymore. :D

What are with those JWs? I've heard bad stories about some, but my grandmother is JW, and she's nice, celebrates birthday, gives Christmas presents, etc.

I guess it's just the individual.
As is true with all people and we do the religion a disservice by judging it by its adherents.

I've not had any bad experiences with the JW. One of my employees is JW and she does not celebrate Christmas or birthdays. We've had some interesting conversations about all of our beliefs around the lunch table and while we don't all agree with the other person's faith, we respect them.

No problems with the ones knocking on the door either. I just tell them that I'm really not interested and wish them a good day and they leave.

I am lucky in that I have never faced prejudice, simply because when I start talking about Religion, people's eyes mostly glaze over, and they turn off their ears.

We ( Marie and I) were trying to persuade our older son's Girlfriend's parents (Whom we have never met before), to 'drop in' when they will be in Bournemouth shortly.

I was mortified to hear Andy saying that his girlfriend was worried that her father (a devout atheist) might say something to 'upset' me. (She knows about my belonging to RF - I do try to recruit you know!!)

I shall send her an e mail explaining that I would be delighted to meet her Father - and that I could never take offence. A gate...perhaps...:jiggy:

it was interesting reading through the posts to see that JW kept being mentioned ,as a JW myself , i would expect to be persecuted because jesus himself said that if a person is a follower of jesus christ as JW are, they would be persecuted.so if JW were not persecuted they would not be following jesus christ ( i think that makes sense)
"If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also."—JOHN 15:20.

It's interesting though, that the JW's aren't the ones being persecuted, they are the ones doing the persecuting. I would also say that Pagans have been persecuted far more than the JW's, does that make them Jesus' followers? Muslims are being persecuted much these days, perhaps they are Jeses' followers?

You can add Tibetan Buddhism to that. It's a point I discussed with my family when they used that as proof for their theology. We can also add the Jews and the Zoroastrians.

I have not faced too much prejudice while studying Buddhism and Christianity partly because when I explain what I believe to most of the not as moronic peers, they usually listen and many times agree with what I say.

I think I have faced more prejudice from political views rather than religious. Mostly on my view that gays deserve equal rights. People have tried to grill me on several occasions for that.

However, recently in my home, I fear a Crusade. Ever since I studied religion, my views have changed quite a bit coming from several different beliefs. I'm not that good gullable little boy anymore. My parents can't stand the fact that I question everything and that I am always asking questions. I have yet to debate them in open battle, just little bits here and there, but I think it will come soon. I am trying to get rid of that prejudice and stereotypes my family has around other religions.

If I may ask, are your parents coming from the Christian viewpoint? Or from another?

You, and everyone else who has experienced this within their own family, have my deepest sympathies.

yep i sure have the worst was a gun pull out at me. at the time i was like 2 months pregnant with my daughter and i really hated men at the time though i didn't show it except to my husband. anyways i went one day to pick my husband up from work and i got out of the car. this guy came up to me calling me a terrorist a ***** and bin laddens whore and pulls his gun puts it in my face and says how he should blow my head off. i am shocked cause it did nothing but anger me to no end. i was angered because he was a black man doing this to me. a black man who knows good and well what prejudice feels like and it angered me that he would treat another person in this way. i was wrong looking back in retospect but i yelled at him that the next time someone calles him a niger that he should not get mad about it and said a few more choice words and then i turned and walked away from him. i thought for sure he was going to be waiting for me when i walked out of the store with my husband but he was gone. this happened on an extremely busy street in detroit in the day light hours and i am shocked that i stood up to him without fear.

dont get me wrong ,i am not saying others are not persecued for their religion, but jesus said regarding his followers that they would be persecuted because of his name , that means what jesus name represcents ,and JW are making know about Gods kingdom with jesus as king of that kingdom ,which was established in the heavens in 1914 and that is why Jw are persecuted because they preach about that kingdom .

Ironicly I have been persicuted by other christians on 2 other forums because of my belief that I have not been put here on this earth to judge anyone . I also have a family member who has no faith and is always putting me down because I am a christian. Its all good though I figure as long as there picking at me they are leaveing someone else alone.:D
