Converting

ah ha...what would it take to convert you from atheism?

and what religion would you convert to?

If I had to be converted to another religion...I would probably convert to an eastern religion something Taoism or Buddhism....And it would take a lot of convincing that I should convert...:x

Proof.

If I had to convert it would be Roman Catholicism, my religion of birth purely for its aesthetic qualities. Its actually a beautiful religion on the basis of it anyway.

If not proof, then an unambigious personal encounter with God with plenty of objectivity

Ooh yes, that too! C'mon down god! We won't take up too much of your time! Just let us hook you up to a couple of monitors, ask you a couple of questions, then you'll be free to go!

If God were to show up, how would you know it was Him? What could he possibly do to prove He was who He said he was? Besides the Bible says that He is invisible, that his appearance is a consuming fire, and that He cannot behold iniquity. I guess it is a good thing that He doesn't show up.

Hmmm...Well, I suppose that because god is all-powerful, it shouldn't be such a big deal for him to temporarily change his appearance to a more benign state.

How would we know it was him? Well...I suppose miracles would do the trick. Unexplainable acts of matter manipulation--with him hanging around to see them scientifically examined, and to discuss them of course.

These kinds of acts would just prove that the person was a great magician or some being superior to us, but that would not prove that he was God. Look how long people can remain on the FBIs most wanted list. These are just people, but they manage to outsmart even very large and powerful organizations for long periods of time, maybe even for a lifetime (Nazi war criminals.)

About the other matter, although it could be assumed that God could choose another form. The Bible says that God does not change.

Lol im not even asking for definitive proof, a personal visitation from God or even a good Story. Im just asking for some realism and tolerance.

Im sick of being told the world really was created in 7 days, that evolution is a pile of crap and sex before marriage is "WRONG" .

Aria, you said it girl!

dharveymi,

If god were all-powerful, he would be able to come up with proof that could not be denied.

And about the 'changing state' thing...hey man, if he can't do it, that's cool. No biggie ya know?

If god were all-powerful,, we wouldn't be atheist to begin with.

Wow. This all powerful thing is really big to you. A person can have lots of capabilities that he chooses not to use. I have the ability to rape, I choose not to use it, because other things are more important to me. God has all power. Power to be evil, to kill, to decieve, change His appearance, etc. He chooses not to use them. Other things are more important to Him.

Being all powerful isn't as easy as it sounds. The topic has been the subject of many movies and at least one book of the Bible, Job.

Give God a break, you think its so easy? You give it a try.

Fair enough. I can accept that god is all-powerful, he just chooses not to do certain things. This of course raises other issues, like whether the nature of god can be all good when he 'chooses' not to take away suffering, but perhaps that is a topic for another thread.

No that is the question, how can a good and all powerfull God allow evil?

He can, of course, not allow evil idefinately, but as a temporary state evil is allowable without calling into question either God's goodness or His power.

Don't we have a timeline from Adam to Noah and Noah to Christ and from Christ to today?

Creation was in 5508 BCE or 5490 BCE or 4004 BCE or 3760 BCE depending on the who did the math.

The Flood was 2349 BCE

Chirst, of course, was 32 CE

It seems we have time before God loses his patience again.

Are you saying that it is taking too long? I've been a builder. Most clients think it should be able to be done faster than I can do it. Obviously, I can do it faster than any of them.

If God wanted to give us proof then He certainly would have. But the point of our existence is to have faith. Hebrews 11:1-Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. We do not have proof because God wants us to have faith in Him despite suffering or pain or sickness. I never saw George Washington, but I have faith that he existed because there are writings and such about him and what he did. Such is the faith of the Christians.
