Just one question

Mt. Horeb

Hello I'm writing a Bible study and I'm hoping you can help me. The Bible study is focusing on images of God within the Bible, but I'd like to incorporate real life issues as well. So, I've just one question to start.

1. What are your own personal images of God?

He is identical to Jesus in appearance. He has white hair and a white beard. He has a body, but it is perfect. It does not have the perfections that ours have. His glory is brighter than the sun at noon day; it would take the protection of the Holy Spirit in order for us to see Him in this mortal state. He is the very definition of love, patience and virtue. He is the perfect Husband, Father, Counsellor and Friend. In our darkest hour He is the only one that wants us to feel better. He loves us even when we don't love ourselves and He wants us all to succeed.

To Review:

PERSONAL IMAGES of God include the following:

He/she/it does not exists, so just leave a space for my view.

No god, just Tao.

On to the next step. Feel free to choose one of the following Bible stories and explain the images of God you see in these stories. Please take the time to tell us why you came to your conclusion.

* Creation Story Gen:1
* Adam & Eve and the Serpent Gen: 3
* Noah and the Ark (Great Flood)

Thank you - your answers help more than you know.

Well, I do not hold ANY image of God in my mind. I have never seen God, and won't bother to attempt to make up some picture in my head. I'm sure what ever you think of, that is not Him.

And as far as God making man in His own image in the bible. I dont believe that story either. He is unseen by us.

I beieve 'God' to be unknowable, unfathomable, unnattached. The burning wheel of cyles that turns thru the ages, or some such hoodoo like that. It is a gross error of judgement to try and know that which cannot, in any level, be known.
Thatis just my thinking, but Godhead is physics and quarks and life and death, imo.

you're assuming that the Father is the most high God...big assumption - seeing as "God is a spirit" (John 4:24) I don't see how you can say He looks like Jesus - or any other physical form for that matter.

I don't think god has a particular 'look' but hey, I've never seen god.

However, if you look around you, everything in creation is a part of creator, and holds within it a piece of creators being.

It may not be the whole picture but it gives you a glimpse of a piece.

If you are really interested in this subject go to a web site named "Does God Exist?" It is run by a Christian named John Clayton who was an athiest for thirty years before converting himself while attempting to prove the Bible wrong. He holds a masters in geology and earth science and has some very good insights.

Look at it but you cannot see it!
Its name is Formless.
Listen to it but you cannot hear it!
Its name is Soundless.
Grasp it but you cannot get it!
Its name is Incorporeal.
These three attributes are unfathomable,
therefore they fuse into one.

Hello Again Everyone:

It's been interesting to read your responses to my original question: What are your personal images of God.

It seems responses vary from the very traditional to the very untraditional, and it's wonderful, thank you.

The Bible study I am writing explores how ones personal images of God impact our lives in concrete ways. It also explores how our image of the human relationship with God impacts our lives. In order to do this with integrity we must also look at where our images come from. One place we find images of God is the Bible. So it would be very interesting for me to hear what type of Divine images you see in:

1. Creation Story - Gen. 1
2. Story of Adam, Eve and the Serpent
3. Noah and the Ark

Also what types of images do you see regarding the human condition and humanity's relationship with God?

Thanks for helping me out.

In Peace:

Mt. Horeb
